Stowe Fire Rescue was pleased to host Robyn from our partner town of Donnerskirchen, Austria, for a weekend of learning and connection! 🇺🇸🇦🇹

Robyn stayed at the Fire Rescue building and spent time with our members learning about American firefighting tactics and emergency medical care. The visit was a great opportunity to share experiences, compare approaches, and strengthen the friendship between our communities.

Thank you, Robyn, for spending the weekend with us. The fire service brings people together across borders, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Donnerskirchen!

Stowe Fire Rescue Responds to Fire at 52 River Road
On September 22, 2026, at 11:24 p.m., Stowe Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 52 River Road, the former Tubbs factory, which now houses multiple businesses.
The first arriving engine reached the scene within six minutes and found heavy fire on the exterior of the rear building extending though a carport. Crews quickly extinguished the visible fire, but it had spread into the walls and floor system of the former sawmill. Firefighters opened portions of the walls and floors to locate and extinguish the remaining fire. The fire was brought under control at 3:47 a.m.
Stowe Fire Rescue thanks the Waterbury, Morrisville, Hyde Park, Cambridge, Elmore, and Wolcott fire departments for responding to the scene or providing coverage.
The Vermont State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Yesterday was a busy day for Stowe Fire Rescue, with two incidents that were serious in nature.

First, SFR responded to a leaking 1,000-gallon propane tank. Crews arrived quickly and worked to disperse the flammable gas until the Vermont Hazardous Materials Response Team arrived to assist. The surrounding area was closed for public safety.

Later that evening, SFR was dispatched to a garage fire. Once again, a quick response allowed crews to bring the situation under control and limit further damage.

Both incidents were reported by calling the fire station directly. Fortunately, personnel were at the station and the responses were not delayed. Although the station is staffed, our personnel may be out responding to another emergency, completing training, conducting inspections, or performing other duties in the community.

This is an important reminder: If you have an emergency, always call 911. Calling 911 ensures that the appropriate emergency responders are dispatched immediately and helps prevent potentially dangerous delays.
