For Friday October 30th

10/29/2026

Special Weather Statement issued October 29 at 1:36PM EDT by NWS Albany NY

Northern Saratoga; Northern Warren; Northern Washington; Western Schenectady; Eastern Schenectady; Southern Saratoga; Western Albany; Eastern Albany; Western Rensselaer; Eastern Rensselaer; Western Greene; Eastern Greene; Western Columbia; Eastern Columbia; Western Ulster; Eastern Ulster; Western Dutchess; Eastern Dutchess; Southeast Warren; Southern Washington

The combination of dry fuels, gusty northwest winds up to 25 to 35
mph, and minimum relative humidity values of 35 to 45 percent in
the lower elevations, and 40 to 50 percent across higher
elevations will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread
within much of the Hudson Valley, including Warren, Washington,
Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia,
Ulster, and Dutchess counties. The lowest relative humidity and
strongest wind gusts are expected during the late morning to mid
afternoon hours on Friday.

Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such
as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or
dispose of cigarette butts.

**Rt 9J Update **

Repairs to the washouts on both sides of the bridge over Mill Creek are nearly complete. Once those repairs are finished, paving will be completed on both sides of the bridge, and new guardrails will be installed.

Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed within the next couple of weeks. Once all repairs are finished, Route 9J will reopen, and that day cannot come soon enough!

At that time, the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to resume the paving project that began last fall. The remaining work will extend from Gibbons Road north to the Columbia/Rensselaer County line.

Stuyvesant Fire Company No. 1 held its annual banquet on October 17, 2026, at the Hudson Elks, welcoming 88 members and guests for an evening of fellowship, recognition, and celebration.

In recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members and guests wore pink or pink ribbons to show their support for those affected by cancer. This display of solidarity was a meaningful reminder of the importance of standing together and supporting members of our fire company family through life’s challenges.

The evening included the presentation of awards honoring members for their dedication and contributions to the department:

* President’s Award: Steve Matheson
* Assistant Chief’s Award: Chris Hoffman
* Chief’s Award: Geoff Johnson

Sandra LaCrosse was also presented with an Honorary Membership in recognition of her connection to and support of the fire company.

The annual banquet provides an opportunity to recognize the dedication of our members and celebrate the people who make our organization strong. We are grateful for the continued support of our members’ families and everyone who contributes to the success of the department.

We would also like to thank the Board of Fire Commissioners for their continued support of our department and its members.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this year’s banquet a memorable evening. We would also like to thank Good Eats Catering for providing the evening’s meal.

đźš’ NEW SCBA NOW IN SERVICE đźš’

After a few weeks of fit testing, training, familiarization, and going over the new equipment, last night was a big night for the members of Stuyvesant Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.

Our new state-of-the-art Scott SCBA are officially in service!

This is a major investment in the safety of our firefighters and the protection we provide to our community. Having modern, reliable SCBA equipment is critical when our members are operating in hazardous environments.

We want to extend a huge thank you to the residents of the Stuyvesant Fire District and our Fire District Commissioners for making this purchase possible.

Your continued support allows us to invest in the equipment our firefighters need to safely answer the call.

To our Commissioners thank you for recognizing the importance of this upgrade and making the safety of our members a priority.

And to our community thank you for supporting your volunteer firefighters. Every time we respond, we’re responding for you.

After a few weeks of preparation, last night these packs officially went into service.

We are proud to put this new equipment to work protecting Stuyvesant and our neighbors.

Thank you, Stuyvesant! 🚒❤️‍🔥

🇺🇸🚒 A Night of Patriotism, Brotherhood & Tradition 🚒🇺🇸

The members of the Stuyvesant Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 would like to sincerely thank the Ashland Fire Company for inviting us to participate in the Greene County Firefighters Parade.

It was an incredible honor to stand alongside fire companies from across the region as the United States Marine Corps Band performed our National Anthem beneath a giant American flag, surrounded by the flags of the many fire companies represented by their color guards.

It was a special evening for Stuyvesant, and we were proud to have our color guard there representing our department and our community.

Thank you to the Ashland Fire Company for hosting such a memorable event and for including Stuyvesant. We truly appreciate the invitation and the opportunity to stand alongside our fellow firefighters for an evening celebrating the pride, tradition, and brotherhood of the fire service.

🇺🇸 God Bless our firefighters, God Bless the United States of America, and God Bless all those who serve. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 25 YEARS — NEVER FORGET 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed us forever.

Today, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost that day, including the civilians, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve others.

We especially remember the 343 members of the FDNY who gave their lives that day. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication continue to inspire firefighters and first responders everywhere.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember. We remember those who were lost, the families who continue to carry that loss, and the countless heroes who ran toward danger when others were running away.

From one fire company to another, we honor their memory and the legacy they left behind.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸
