Honoring Our Heroes: National First Responder Day

Every year, on October 28th, we come together to recognize and express our gratitude to the brave individuals who serve as first responders. This special day is dedicated to honoring the dedication, courage, and selflessness of law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, telecommunicators, and jailers. Each of these roles is crucial in maintaining the safety and well-being of our communities.

Law enforcement officers are the backbone of our community's safety. They work tirelessly to protect us, often putting their lives on the line to maintain law and order. Their unwavering commitment to justice and public safety deserves our deepest respect and appreciation.

Firefighters are true heroes, always ready to battle the flames and save lives. Their bravery knows no bounds as they confront dangerous situations head-on to protect people and property. We owe them our gratitude for their relentless service and dedication to keeping us safe.

EMS personnel are often the first to respond in medical emergencies, providing critical care and support during the most crucial moments. Their expertise and quick thinking can make the difference between life and death. We thank them for their compassion, skill, and unwavering commitment to helping others in need.

Telecommunicators are the unsung heroes of emergency response. They are the calm voices on the other end of the line, providing vital instructions and reassurance during crises. Their ability to manage stress and coordinate response efforts is invaluable. We recognize their essential role in ensuring help reaches those who need it most.

Jailers play a vital role in maintaining order and safety within correctional facilities. Their work often goes unnoticed, yet they ensure that justice is upheld in a secure and humane environment. We honor their commitment to safety and justice.

To all first responders, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your courage and dedication do not go unnoticed. You are the embodiment of bravery and selflessness, and our communities are safer and stronger because of you. On National First Responder Day, and every day, we salute you for your service and sacrifice. Thank you for being there when we need you the most.

AI voice cloning scams are actively occurring and increasing rapidly. We put this information together to help educate our community, recognize the warning signs, and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of these scams.

An emerging concern is AI voice cloning, which can allow scammers to imitate the voice of someone you know and trust, even a family member.

Our deepest condolences are extended to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office and the family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers of Deputy Sheriff Adam Sherifi, who was killed last night while serving a felony warrant in Van Zandt County.

Law enforcement officers face dangers every day while protecting our communities. The loss of one of our own is heartbreaking. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Sherifi’s wife, their three children, his loved ones, and his fellow officers during this difficult time.

🚨 SCAM ALERT — Nolan County Sheriff's Office 🚨

A local business received a call asking for a donation to secure a spot on a National Night Out T-shirt. The caller claimed to represent us and said, “Only six slots left—you need to hurry!”

National Night Out was last week. **The Nolan County Sheriff’s Office, City of Sweetwater, and Sweetwater Police Department are NOT currently soliciting donations for National Night Out. This call was a scam!**

⏰ Pressure to act quickly is a warning sign.
📞 A local number doesn’t guarantee a legitimate call—scammers can spoof caller ID.
🛑 Hang up and verify any request by calling the agency directly using a trusted number.

We appreciate our community’s generous businesses. Please don’t let scammers take advantage of your willingness to help! 💛

We had an obstacle course set up for the kiddos, at National Night Out, and they came out ready for the challenge! The kids had a great time running through the course and getting the chance to tackle the “bad guy” to complete their mission!

There were lots of laughs, cheering, excitement, and fun had by all! Seeing the kids having a great time and getting involved made it all worthwhile.

We were having so much fun running the obstacle course and interacting with everyone that we didn’t get a chance to take any pictures! If anyone took pictures during the event, please share them in the comments.
