The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of Newman Street on Tuesday afternoon, October 27.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a structure adjacent to the primary residence fully engulfed in flames. Crews quickly brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The fire was extinguished, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We would like to thank the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance with overhaul operations.

**NEW AMBULANCE, SAME COMMITMENT TO SERVING SWEETWATER!**

The Sweetwater Fire Department has welcomed a new 2026 ambulance to its fleet, thanks in large part to **$310,000 in grant funding** through the Extraordinary Emergency Fund (EEF)!

The new ambulance replaces a unit lost in an accident last year and will help ensure our first responders have the reliable equipment they need to serve our community.

The Sweetwater Fire Department would like to thank Georgia Pacific for their generous donation of $3,500 to put toward the purchase a new thermal imaging camera. This camera is an important tool for our crews during fire rescue operations, giving firefighters the capability to see through smoke, locate victims, and identify hotspots. Thank you, Georgia-Pacific, for supporting our department and the community!

343 firefighters made their final call on September 11, 2001.

They climbed the stairs while others were coming down. They entered buildings others were fleeing. They answered the call knowing the risks because that is what they had sworn to do.

Twenty-five years later, the fire service continues to carry their memory forward.

Today, the Sweetwater Fire Department honors the 343 firefighters lost on September 11 and remembers all 2,977 lives taken that day.

Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
