🎃🐿️ OUR TINIEST PUMPKIN FEST VOLUNTEER! 🇺🇸

Looks like a little critter was getting a head start on Pumpkin Fest prep at the DeKalb County Courthouse! 🌱 This little helper was busy planting pumpkins, and WOW, did they deliver a crop! 😂🎃

Thanks to our furry friend, we’ve got a little extra fall spirit growing right here at the Courthouse for our staff and visitors to enjoy!

We think this little critter deserves an honorary spot on the Pumpkin Fest planning committee! 🐿️👏

🍀 Celebrating our young people and our agricultural roots

At its October 21 meeting, the DeKalb County Board recognized National 4-H Week and National Farm to School Month.

Here in DeKalb County, agriculture is part of our everyday lives. It is in the fields we pass, the families we know, and the young people learning to care for animals, grow food, and take on new responsibilities.

These experiences teach patience, hard work, and confidence. They also help young people understand where their food comes from and how much our farmers do for our community.

To our local youth, we are proud of the work you put in and the ways you give back. Thank you to the families, volunteers, educators, University of Illinois Extension, DeKalb County 4-H and agricultural partners who show up to support you!

You are helping carry DeKalb County’s agricultural traditions into the next generation. 🌱

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

At its October 21 meeting, the DeKalb County Board recognized Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the people who help residents find safety and support.

Here in DeKalb County, Orders of Protection cases filed have risen from 215 in 2015 to 408 in 2020 and 735 in 2025. That is more than three times as many filings in ten years.

Behind every filing is someone asking for help.

Our Circuit Clerk’s Office plays an important role in helping residents through that process. Staff assist with the necessary forms and help people understand the court process during what may be one of the most difficult times in their lives.

We appreciate the care and dedication of our Circuit Clerk’s staff and the advocates, law enforcement officers, and community partners who support those experiencing domestic violence.

Everyone deserves safety, dignity, and someone to turn to. 💜

🚧 Peace Road is OPEN! 🚗

Good news for drivers! Peace Road between IL Route 64 and Freed Road is now open to traffic just in time for the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival! 🎃

Crews have completed major work during the closure, including new pavement on all lanes and shoulders, pavement striping, bridge deck sealing, and additional improvements around the bridge.

While the road is open, a few minor items remain before the project is fully complete. Please stay alert and watch for crews working in the area.

Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this project, especially during the road closure. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as these improvements are completed!

🚔🧟‍♂️ Someone’s Going Downtown Tonight!

Deputy Rivers was on special assignment at Jonamac Orchard’s Haunted Corn Maze, and it looks like he had a suspect on his hands! 🌽👻

We’re not sure this zombie was ready for booking, but Deputy Rivers sure looked ready to take him downtown! 😂🚔

All jokes aside, we LOVE our special assignments! Whether it’s a local event, a community celebration, or a haunted corn maze, our favorite part is getting out there, meeting people, and building connections and relationships with the people who make DeKalb County such a great place to call home.

Head to the comments for the update!
