🚌⚡BIG NEWS: IS GOING YEAR-ROUND TO TAOS SKI VALLEY!

💙♻️✅

More Bluebird Days on the mountain straight ahead! Starting Saturday, November 7, the 341 TSV Green route will run 365 days a year, connecting Taos, Arroyo Seco and the Village of Taos Ski Valley, including holidays. What was once seasonal service is becoming a year-round connection for the people who live, work and play here.

Early adopters? You bet. As North Central Regional Transit rolls out a growing fleet of hybrid-electric and fully electric buses, the future of getting to the mountains is looking more bluebird than ever. More mountain access. More connections. More ways to efficiently get to the Valley, every season of the year. 🍁

Why this matters:
💙 More transportation options for local workers and businesses
🏔️ Easier access to Taos Ski Valley beyond ski season
🚌 Reliable connections between our communities throughout the year
⚡ A new generation of public transportation taking the road to the mountains

Before you ride, check the updated route schedule and stop information at RideTheBlueBus.com. Some stops are changing to accommodate the new, 35-foot buses.

Here’s to better connections, year-round mountain access and a big step forward for transportation in Northern New Mexico. See you on the Blue Bus! 💙

Tuesdays are for tacos. The rest of the week has plans, too.

🌮🍻🍸

Hot spot on the grill! At Millicent’s Bar & Lounge inside Hotel Don Fernando de Taos, there are a few friendly faces reason enough to pull up a chair, order something delicious, and make a night of it. From Taos-style comfort food to cocktails featuring New Mexico’s own Rolling Still Distillery spirits, come hungry and stay awhile.

Here’s your weekly lineup:

🍹 Margarita Mondays | 4:30–9 PM
Kick off the week with $5 margaritas in Strawberry, Mango, or Chile-Tamarind.

🌮 Taco Tuesdays | 4:30–9 PM
Your Tuesday plans, sorted. $3 tacos with your choice of pork, beef, or chicken.

🍗 Wing Wednesdays | 4:30–9 PM
Midweek cravings call for $6 wings in BBQ, Buffalo, or plain.

🥃 Thirsty Thursdays | 4:30–9 PM
Happy hour all evening, with $2 off b**r bottles and cans, draft b**r, w**e by the glass, and well cocktails.

And there’s more on the table. Think crispy jalapeño poppers, elote with lime butter and cotija, a Taos taco on fry bread, enchiladas smothered in your choice of red or green chile, and sirloins coming off Chef James’s grill for a catered gathering.

Behind the bar, Tara’s ready to stir and Brian channels his inner “Dude”. The Pecan White Russian with pecan-infused vodka, Kahlúa, and cream. A reason to stay for one more and some southwestern hospitality from folks who live here and work hard to make you feel at home.

Planning a holiday party? Let us help you bring everyone together over good food, drinks, and a little Taos charm. 🎉

📍 Millicent’s Bar & Lounge at Hotel Don Fernando
1005 Paseo del Pueblo Sur, Taos
Daily, 4:30–9 PM | Happy Hour, 4:30–6:30 PM

Locals, hotel guests, and hungry travelers are all welcome. Double dip… we won’t tell!!

Rain Check? Full Moon Had Other Plans!

🌕🌨️🏔️

When it rains, it pours… moonlight! On Sunday night, October’s Hunter’s Moon rose over Taos just as the sun set and squall line moved north through the valley. By early morning, the clouds had cleared revealing a frosted Vallecitos as the moon set over Two Peaks!

We’ll take 5” on the Taos Ski Valley Poco snow stick, a little high-desert drama to start the week and more snow on the way! ❄️

Go where the wind takes you… and the direction it blows!

🌬️🎈🍂

The view is always changing, but it’s always a winner. Fall has blown into town, the leaves are turning now that the mountains have had their moment, and this weekend, dozens of balloons bring that unmistakable high-desert sunrise magic to the heart of Visit Taos.

The 43rd annual Taos Mountain Balloon Rally Association returns October 23–25. Here’s your flight forecast: early alarms, crisp fall mornings and a sky worth looking (and getting!) up for.

🎈 Saturday & Sunday: Morning mass ascensions around sunrise, approximately 7am
🎃 Saturday after dark: Trick-or-treat balloon glow
🎶 Saturday evening: Live music, food, coffee and art vendors
👋 All weekend: Meet the pilots and get up close with the balloons
📍 Behind the Taos County Courthouse, off Albright Street
🎟️ Free admission. Balloon activities are weather permitting.

WARM FUZZIES

🥰🍁🦙

Last weekend, we headed into the Columbine-Hondo Wilderness with Wild Earth Llama Adventures to “Take a Llama to Lunch!” in peak fall color. The scenery was spectacular, but our four-legged trail crew definitely stole the show!

🌲 WILDERNESS MATTERS

No roads, no motorized travel, no development. Just protected landscapes that help safeguard wildlife habitat, clean water and the headwaters our communities depend on.

Our mountain community is surrounded by both Wheeler Peak and Columbine-Hondo Wilderness where we ventured on Saturday — 45,000 acres of the Carson National Forest designated by Congress in 2014.

🏔️ AN ANCIENT TRAIL PARTNER

Llamas, native to South America, have served as pack animals in the Andes for thousands of years. Camel relatives, they’re highly suited to carrying supplies through rugged terrain. Padded feet help minimize impact on trails. Cousins Alpaca are bred for fleece.

🌳 THE TOUR GUIDE MAKES THE TOUR

Wild Earth’s owner/founder Stuart Wilde has spent 25 yrs as a naturalist, wilderness guide, outdoor educator and conservation advocate in New Mexico’s wild places. Hikes combine forest ecology and tree science, geology, edible and medicinal plants, backcountry wilderness skills and local natural history. You bet a knife roll was part of the pack list - he was chef at Snakedance back in the day!

🫶 MEET THE CREW

Rio was llama cam, Denali the model (and the face of the Wild Earth logo!), and Cusco, Chaco and Loki rounded out the herd of boys. Each has a story. Getting to know them is part of the adventure.

🏡 SECOND CHANCES ON FOUR FEET

Wild Earth gives unwanted, neglected and abandoned llamas a safe home, rehabilitation and new purpose. Chaco, for example, was nearly euthanized after he didn’t work out as a sheep guardian. The Wild Earth Llama Rescue Fund, a special project of Taos Community Foundation, helps cover essentials (hay, veterinary care, fencing.) And so do these tours!

Hikes run through Halloween, but trips may continue through Thanksgiving weather permitting, before a pause until spring.

RIDING THAT SUNDAY HIGH

🍁🦄🚵

While everyone sneaks out for a Monday recovery ride through the golden foothills, we’re still basking in the glow of an incredible day Field Institute of Taos Ride the Rift!

The Rio Grande Gorge delivered the natural wow factor, with miles of sweet singletrack, big rim-top views, and a whole lot of community spirit. Riders could choose their own adventure, from beginner-friendly loops to the 12+ mile course, making it a day for all ages and abilities with 19 kids ages 2–9 making for one very magical memorable Unicorn Fun Race!

Push bikes, pedal bikes, little legs, big smiles. This is what getting kids outside and building a lifelong love of riding looks like.

Huge thanks to the real unicorn Susie Fiore, Founder and FITaos Bikes Program Director, and the volunteers, families, and local cycling community who made it all happen. Because it’s more than a day on the trails. It helps support scholarships, bikes, coaching, and opportunities for Taos’s middle school and high school mountain bike teams!!

A special shout-out to the 2026 sponsors and supporters who helped make this 🆓 community event possible: Taos Cow, Taos Community Foundation, Taos Ski Valley, Cid’s Food Market, Taos Mountain Bike Association, FITaos Bikes, TaosNet, Taos Sports Alliance, Syd and Macky, Humble Brands, Annex Life Coaching, Rift Cycles, Goathead Bicycle Repair, Taos Bakes, and the Michael “Red” Wagener Memorial Fund.

Thanks for showing up, riding together, and making this such a good day to be part of the Taos cycling community.

Now go catch that fall color before it drops! See you on the trails! 🍂

ALL THE COLORS & CREATURES OF FALL 🍂🐾

A moon setting over the ridge. A pika in the talus. A Canada Jay framed by autumn gold. Williams Lake reflecting the mountains beneath New Mexico’s highest summit. Fall in Taos Ski Valley is a field guide, from big views to tiny details.

🏔️ WHEELER PEAK
At 13,161 feet, Wheeler Peak is New Mexico’s highest summit. Williams Lake Trail winds through spruce-fir forest into a glacial basin.

🥾 PICK YOUR ADVENTURE
• Williams Lake: about 4.2 miles round trip, with 900 feet of gain.
• Wheeler Peak summit: about 8.5 miles round trip and nearly 3,000 feet of gain via Williams Lake, with exposed terrain above treeline.
• Bull of the Woods: a longer, rugged approach via Trail #90, with high ridgelines for experienced hikers.

🍂 WHEN TO GO
Higher-elevation aspens often turn first. Late September to early October is typically prime color. By mid-October, peak color may have passed, but pockets of gold, orange leaves underfoot, and dark evergreens still make a beautiful contrast. Snow, ice, and strong winds can arrive quickly near the summit.

🐾 LOOK FOR THE LOCALS
• Canada Jay: Watch the conifers for this curious mountain bird.
• American pika: Scan the talus for a small mammal darting between rocks. Pikas shelter in crevices and gather plants for winter.

Bring binoculars, keep your distance, and let wildlife set the pace.

🪨 LOOK CLOSER
Ancient Precambrian rocks tell a much older story.
• Granite: Look for interlocking grains and contrasting crystals.
• Pink veins: They may be rich in quartz and feldspar; close inspection is needed to identify the minerals.
• Lichen: Bright green and rich orange patches are partnerships between fungi and photosynthetic organisms, slowly colonizing stone.

🌙 LOOK UP, TOO
Sometimes the best moment isn’t the summit: it’s the moon slipping behind a ridge, light over Williams Lake, or a flash of color on a rock.

BEFORE YOU GO: Acclimate, choose a suitable route, check trail conditions and forecasts, pack water and warm layers. Above treeline, turn around if weather deteriorates. Stay on trail and leave nature undisturbed.
