Northwood Middle School Welcome to the official GCSD page! Northwood Middle has a long-standing commitment to excellence. Every classroom is equipped with a Promethean Board.

Northwood Middle School was opened in 1965 as a combination elementary and middle school. In 2008 NMS moved into a new building, which came equipped with state-of-the-art technology. There are three computer labs, as well as three portable computer labs. We presently have approximately 835 students with 55 teachers. The purpose of Northwood Middle School is to assist all students in attaining their fullest potential as a contributing member of society. We believe that each student has unique abilities and the potential for learning. The home, community, student, and school share responsibility in the learning process. The home, community, student, and school will work as a team. Learning is a continuous and life-long process. The school will promote respect, responsibility, and integrity. The inclusion of cultural diversity enriches the learning environment. Content Disclaimer:

🔬🧪 SCIENCE IN ACTION! 🌎⚔️

Our 7th Grade Knights took learning beyond the classroom during their field trip to Roper Mountain Science Center! 💙

Students became environmental scientists for the day, tackling real-world challenges through three hands-on labs!

⚡ Clean Energy: Generated hydrogen gas from water while exploring the Law of Conservation of Mass.

🧪 Chemical Detectives: Identified mystery substances using their physical and chemical properties.

🌱 Going Green: Tested biodegradable alternatives to everyday plastics to explore ways to reduce waste and protect our environment.

What a great opportunity for our Knights to apply classroom learning, think critically, and solve real-world problems!

Way to go, Knights! 💙⚔️

Also BIG shout out to our parent chaperones! You make trips like this possible and we are grateful!

🎶💙⚔️ OUR KNIGHTS ARE MAKING MUSIC TOGETHER! ⚔️💙🎶

What an incredible day of music, collaboration, and talent! 🎤✨

This past Friday, our Northwood 7th and 8th Grade Chorus students had the amazing opportunity to join singers from 13 other middle schools at the Upstate SCMEA SA/TB Choral Clinic in Simpsonville! 🎼

Under the direction of Dr. Evan Powers and Dr. Shannon Day, students spent the day rehearsing, learning, and growing as musicians alongside talented singers from across the Upstate. The experience culminated in a WONDERFUL evening concert showcasing their hard work and incredible voices! 🎵👏

We are so proud of our Knights for representing Northwood and embracing this opportunity to grow their musical talents!

🎉 WAY TO GO, KNIGHTS! KEEP SINGING AND SHINING! 💙⚔️

We are SO excited to celebrate an incredible first for Northwood Middle School!

For the FIRST TIME EVER, Northwood Chorus students auditioned for the South Carolina American Choral Directors Association (SC ACDA) Honor Choir! 🎤

🌟 Out of 1,300 students who auditioned from across South Carolina, our very own Sydney W. was SELECTED! 🌟

Sydney will travel to Coastal Carolina University in January to perform alongside 300 talented students selected from across the state! 🎼👏

What an AMAZING accomplishment and an exciting milestone for our Northwood Chorus program!

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS, SYDNEY! 🎉 We are incredibly proud of you and cannot wait for you to represent Northwood on the state stage!

Our Knights competed in their first RECF Achieve 🤖 tournament at Sevier Middle School today. They have been working hard on building, coding, and driving their robots since the second week of school. 🏫

Klankers, Invect, and Brainbots all advanced to the finals 👏👏👏… Invect advanced to the Quarter-Finals!!! 🎉

Klankers also received the “Inspire” award 🥇 for being a strong contender in all judged categories, communicating effectively with the judges through a clear, well-documented engineering notebook 📓 and an engaging, professional interview. The award also looks for a team who displays high standards of sportsmanship, teamwork, and student-centered work. 🦾

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our Northwood teams on a job well done AND upholding the qualities of a K.N.I.G.H.T!!

💙⚔️ KNIGHT PRIDE! Celebrating Climate and Rigor in the Classroom! ⚔️💙

This month, we are excited to recognize Mr. Hill, Mrs. Howard, and Mrs. Paige for their commitment to student mastery and creating meaningful learning experiences for our Knights!

As our 6th Grade Science Team, these three educators are working hard to think creatively, collaborate intentionally, and develop engaging ways to bring science to life in their classrooms! 🔬🧪

Their focus goes beyond simply teaching the standards. They are working to ignite curiosity, engage students in learning, and ensure ALL students have opportunities to achieve mastery!

We are so thankful for their dedication, teamwork, and willingness to go above and beyond for our Knights!

💙 Stronger Together! ⚔️
