Ten dedicated Kyrene teachers from seven campuses recently completed more than 40 hours of intensive, in-person professional learning through LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling).

Led by Kyrene K-3 Literacy Facilitator Dr. Raquel Ellis, participants engaged in deep study of evidence-based practices that strengthen how we teach elementary students to read, spell, and write. This rigorous training reflects their commitment to continuous growth and their passion for ensuring every student develops strong literacy foundations. Their dedication to Early Literacy supports Kyrene's Strategic Plan and helps us create brighter futures for all learners.

With the school year wrapping up for K-7 students in the Kyrene School District, ABC15 wanted to follow up with one teacher who has made it his mission to create a class that no one wants to miss!

Today is the final day of school for the 2025-26 school year, a day that is always filled with an array of emotions. There’s excitement for the summer break ahead, and sadness too as 5th grade students depart their elementary schools for the final time.

For the communities of Kyrene de la Colina, Kyrene de la Estrella and Kyrene de las Manitas, this goodbye carries an extra weight. Today, we say goodbye to these campuses, and we know that for many families, staff members, and community members, this day means something much bigger than the end of just another school year.

It has been inspiring to see these communities come together to celebrate the history of each campus over the last few months, and we are thankful to everyone for sharing their memories and love for these schools. While the buildings may close, their legacies will live on in every student, family, staff member, and community member who shared part of their lives with each campus.

To the students and families continuing their journey with Kyrene next year, you are bringing the best of these communities with you, and our receiving school communities ready and excited to welcome you in July.

Tonight, Kyrene 8th graders will officially promote from middle school to high school! This is one of the best nights of the year in our district as we celebrate the accomplishments of our oldest learners. We look forward to hearing the cheers, applause, and laughter that will fill our gymnasiums and fields as we send students on to their next adventure.
