🚨National First Responders Day🚨

Today, we recognize the brave men and women in EMS, law enforcement, fire, and public safety telecommunications who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities.

From the voices who answer the call for help to the first responders arriving on scene, each role matters. Behind every emergency there is a team of people who work together, often under very difficult circumstances, to help others when it is needed most.

Today we ask our communities to join us in showing appreciation. Take a moment to thank a firefighter, EMT, dispatcher, an officer, and a sheriff’s deputy.❤️💙💛

To all the first responders who sacrifice time with their families, face the unexpected, and show up when others need it the most. We thank you, your dedication does not go unnoticed. Our communities are stronger because of you all.

🚔🚒🚑📞 Different roles. One mission: serving our community.

Tama County 911 Communications is proud to announce the implementation of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) in our Communications Center!

Check out our press release here:https://www.tamacounty.iowa.gov/files/911/press_release_tama_county_emd_implementation_2026_53459.pdf

In partnership with Total Response (a RapidSOS Company), our Public Safety Telecommunicators are taking an important step forward in how we serve our communities during medical emergencies.

One important thing to remember: Even though our dispatchers may be asking additional questions, that does not mean help is being delayed. Emergency responders can be dispatched while our telecommunicators continue gathering important information.

We are proud of our team for embracing this additional training and responsibility, and we're grateful to our fire and EMS partners for their continued dedication to the residents and visitors of Tama County.

July 13, 2026 is Meskwaki Nation Proclamation Day.

On May 27, 1992, the Meskwaki Tribal Council officially proclaimed July 13 as a Meskwaki National Holiday in honor of the historic purchase of the original Meskwaki Indian Settlement on July 13, 1857 As the only Native Nation to purchase its own land in Iowa.
