Northwest Education Services (formerly TBAISD) is a K-12 educational service agency and one of 56 intermediate school districts established by the Michigan Legislature in 1962. Northwest Education Services (formerly TBAISD) serves as a support system for 16 public, 5 charter and 14 non-public school districts in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties in Michigan. Together, our region's schools teach, learn, and work together as engaged citizens, continuing to raise the bar to prepare students for the highly competitive global economy of the 21st century. 🎉 More free preschool options for Northern Michigan families!

There’s exciting news for early childhood education in our region! Northwest Education Services (North Ed) is celebrating the expansion of Michigan’s FREE Pre-K program (GSRP), with three new preschool partners joining for the 2026–27 school year!

A warm welcome to our newest partners:

⭐ Leelanau Montessori Public Academy – Lake Leelanau

⭐ Teddy Bear Daycare and Preschool – Bass Lake, Traverse City

⭐ Pitter Patter – Interlochen

These new partnerships mean more opportunities for young children to learn, play, build friendships, and grow!

Did you know? Children can benefit from preschool even when they enroll after the school year has started!

📚 Still looking for preschool? Some locations may still have openings! Help Me Grow Northwest can help families explore their options.

As part of North Ed’s strategic plan SAIL (Serving, Achieving, Inspiring, Learning), we accept nominations from staff members and select an employee who embodies one of our core values: Students/Learners First; Relationships; Integrity; Listening; Service; Diversity; Equity; Empathy; and Excellence. This school year, we are spotlighting our SAILORS On Deck each month.

This month, we honor Mimi Kinney, our Transition Coordinator, who has served North Ed for over 28 years. Mimi is recognized for embodying Students/Learners First. Mimi’s nomination details her work “throughout the ISD and with community partners to ensure the transition needs of students are met, as those students prepare for post-secondary living, work and independence. Students participate in innovative learning and work experiences, thanks to Mimi’s advocacy.”

Thank you, Mimi, for your commitment to North Ed and our community!
