Gibson County Law Enforcement Agencies Complete Countywide S*x Offender Compliance Checks Ahead of Halloween
GIBSON COUNTY, TN - October 30, 2026 - This week, the Gibson County Sheriff's Office, together with the Bradford, Dyer, Gibson, Humboldt, Kenton, Medina, Milan, Rutherford and Trenton Police Departments, carried out compliance checks on more than 100 registered s*x offenders, which covers every registered s*x offender in Gibson County. Every law enforcement agency in the county took part.
No violations were found.
The Trenton, Humboldt, and Milan Police Departments monitor registered offenders who live in their cities and report checks to the TBI. The Gibson County Sheriff's Office monitors offenders in the county's other seven towns and in the unincorporated areas of the county and also report checks to the TBI.
"I want to thank every police chief in Gibson County and their officers for working alongside our office on this effort," said Gibson County Sheriff Rodney Wright. "Operation Safe Halloween was a tremendous success. I am proud of all the law enforcement officers who helped with this compliance check. Our goal is simple: we want our children and families to have a safe and happy Halloween."
S*x offenders who are on state probation or parole and whose offenses involved minors must follow Halloween restrictions set by the Tennessee Department of Correction. On Halloween, these offenders may not:
- Answer the door to trick-or-treaters. Porch lights must stay off and front doors must stay closed.
- Give out treats, candy, favors or gifts to children, or be at any home where treats are being handed out.
- Allow anyone to hand out treats at their registered home.
- Wear costumes.
- Host Halloween parties.
- Go to corn mazes, haunted houses, hayrides or other seasonal activities.
- Attend any event where children are gathered, even at a private home.
The agencies encourage families to follow these safety tips this Halloween:
- Trick-or-treat only at homes you know, or go to organized Trunk or Treat events.
- Make sure young children are with a parent or trusted adult.
- Carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing, and stay on sidewalks and well-lit streets.
- Drivers should slow down and watch for children in neighborhoods.
Anyone can look up registered s*x offenders in their area on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's S*x Offender Registry at https://sor.tbi.tn.gov/home.
If you see suspicious activity, or if you see a registered offender breaking these restrictions, contact your local police department or the Gibson County Sheriff's Office. In an emergency, call 911.
