$50,000 for 50 YEARS
Historic Tyler Inc announces major contribution to United Way of Smith County o support the preservation of the Woman’s Building
During its Annual Membership Meeting at Willow Brook Country Club on September 17th, Historic Tyler, Inc. announced a significant and strategic investment in a true Tyler treasure: $50,000 to support the preservation of the Woman’s Building, located at 911 S. Broadway Ave. This gift represents an investment in Tyler’s history, as well as a celebration of Historic Tyler’s 50th Anniversary.
Once home to the Tyler Woman’s Forum, the Woman’s Building has a storied history of hosting cultural enrichment and civic engagement programs, from recitals and lectures to private events and wedding receptions. It is vital to the fabric of Tyler’s Azalea Residential Historic District, and today houses the United Way of Smith County.
“When this project came about, we immediately knew we wanted to play a part,” says Jessi Reel, Executive Director of Historic Tyler. “I can’t think of a better way to serve our mission than to kick off our 50th year by supporting the Woman’s Building so that it can serve the next generation of our amazing community.”
For nearly 100 years, the Woman’s Building has stood on Tyler’s main thoroughfare as a pillar of community impact and a steady reminder of the good a group of people can do when they join together. Historic Tyler’s contribution to the Woman’s Building is designated to restoring the exterior facades of the building, so that it will withstand another 100 years of weather and wear.
“Partnership is at the heart of the United Way’s mission, and we could not be more grateful to have Historic Tyler as a significant partner in our efforts to bring new life and new programming to the Woman’s Building,” says Carleen Dark-Bays, Chair of the United Way of Smith County Board of Directors.
