Meet Kobie: Making Moves On and Off the Court!

Kobie’s SSA, Kenisha, shares that he is a natural athlete who loves sports and is always ready for a new challenge!

This is Kobie’s first year playing wheelchair rugby, and he’s loving the game and getting to know his teammates! Known by his nickname, “Turtle,” Kobie says he was named after the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant. 🏀

Kobie and his teammates recently competed in an exciting matchup, losing by just one point! The team currently holds an impressive 4–1 record. Way to go, Kobie! 🎉

His passion for sports doesn’t stop there! Kobie is also part of the Special Olympics Ohio - Champaign County track team and hopes to start a rugby team through Special Olympics Ohio - Champaign County. His goal is to share his newly learned skills and love for the game with others in the community. What a great way to bring people together!

The weather didn’t stop the fun at our Family Support Group Fun Fall Fling! Despite the rainy weather, everyone enjoyed cookie decorating, pumpkin carving and decorating, games, and even a chance to smash a pumpkin!

A big thank-you to the Community Education and Outreach Department for organizing this fun event! And a special shout-out to Jeff Coaty, Director of Community Education and Outreach, for being a good sport and taking a pie to the face from Amanda! 🥧 Amanda was definitely excited to make that happen!

Thank you to everyone who came out and made the event a great time, rain or shine! 🍁

Why does local funding matter for Ohio's developmental disabilities system? In a guest perspective published by ElevateDD, OACB CEO Adam Herman explores the critical role local property tax levies play in supporting people with developmental disabilities and their families across Ohio.

With DD levies on the ballot in 12 Ohio counties on November 3, Herman explains why county boards face growing financial pressures, how local funding supports services beyond Medicaid, and why the experiences of people and families are so important to understanding the system's impact.

Ohio's county board system was built through the advocacy of people with disabilities and their families nearly 60 years ago. Their stories continue to shape its future.
