Welcome to Venice, the “City on the Gulf.” The City of Venice is a popular vacation destination as well as a wonderful place to live, work and play. The beautifully landscaped historic downtown district is lined with a variety of restaurants, boutiques, and unique shops. There are over 30 public parks, 5 miles of trails along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and 3.5 miles of beautiful beaches including a dog-friendly beach. The city has received numerous awards and recognition on lists such as: Best Beach Towns to Live In, America In Bloom, USA Today Best Coastal Small Town, Safest Cities in Florida, Top Fishing Piers in Florida, Best Places to Retire in Florida, and Top Small Cities to Relocate. The shopping, dining, recreation, and natural beauty draw thousands of people to the City each year; making Venice a great place to host special events. Annually, there are nearly 100 medium to large events held within the City and more than 200 park reservations each year. These park reservations include smaller activities and events such as concerts at the Centennial Park gazebo.

TOMORROW! 🛫 The City of Venice will hold a meet-and-greet on Friday, Oct. 30 to introduce the new Community Outreach Manager for Venice Municipal Airport, Sue Beaudet, to the public.

The event will be held from 1-3 p.m. in Community Hall at Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave. Light refreshments will be provided. The community is invited to stop by to meet and speak with Sue.

As Airport Community Outreach Manager, Sue serves as the primary point of contact between the Airport and its many stakeholders, including tenants, pilots, local residents, and state and federal agencies. She will coordinate closely across departments and agencies to ensure concerns are addressed proactively and that the Airport's operations remain clearly understood by the community it serves. Sue started with the City on Sept. 28.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the residents and the tenants and working with representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation over the next few months," Sue said. "The airport is currently working on a few very important projects, and I am excited to help the community engage with these projects as they move forward.”

🦇DYK there are 13 native bat species in Florida? 🦇

These tiny creatures are nature’s superheroes. 🦸 They are the only mammal capable of true flight. They zoom around at night, using high-frequency sound waves to navigate and find prey -- even in total darkness! A single bat can eat hundreds of mosquitoes 🦟 each night, and they also eat insects that are damaging to agricultural crops. 🍅🍉These are just a few of the reasons it’s important to help our native bat populations.

Here’s how you can make a difference for bats:

- Preserve natural roost sites, including trees with cavities or peeling bark.
- Leave dead palm fronds and Spanish moss to provide roosting spots for bats.
- Install a bat house on your property.
- Report unusual bat behavior, as well as sick or dead bats: bit.ly/MyFWC_BatMortality

Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/VenicePMPSurvey You can also use the QR code on the below flyer.

Feedback collected through the survey and during the public workshops will help identify community needs, establish priorities, and guide future investments in parks, facilities, amenities, and open spaces. The Parks Master Plan will serve as a roadmap for decision-making and resource allocation, helping ensure Venice continues to provide high-quality parks and public spaces that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

🎃 Halloween is still a few days away, but the trick-or-treating fun has already begun! Whether you’re heading to a community event or getting ready to make the neighborhood rounds, keep these safety reminders in mind:

🔦 Carry a flashlight or glow stick so others can see you
👻 Stay with a buddy or an adult
🚶 Look both ways before crossing, and use crosswalks whenever possible
🍬 Have an adult check all candy before digging in

Driving? Slow down, put distractions away and watch for excited trick-or-treaters who may dart into the road. Not everyone will be bright and visible, so an extra bit of caution will ghoul a long way! 👻

Be safe. Be smart. Be seen. 🐈‍⬛
