Vermillion Police Department Offers Blue Envelopes to Assist Individuals with Autism
The Vermillion Police Department is pleased to announce that we now have NPS-AID Blue Envelopes available for members of our community.
The Blue Envelope Program is designed to help improve interactions between law enforcement officers and individuals with autism or other communication needs. The envelope provides officers with a visual indication that the person they are interacting with may communicate, respond, or process information differently.
The Blue Envelope can be used to store important documents such as a driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance information, or other information an individual may need during an interaction with law enforcement. The envelope also provides helpful guidance for both the individual and the officer to encourage a safer, calmer, and more effective interaction.
Blue Envelopes are available free of charge at the Vermillion Police Department.
Individuals with autism, parents, caregivers, family members, or anyone who believes a Blue Envelope may be helpful are encouraged to stop by the Vermillion Police Department and pick one up.
Participation in the program is completely voluntary. The goal is simply to provide another tool that can help reduce anxiety, improve communication, and create positive interactions between law enforcement and members of our community.
The Vermillion Police Department is proud to participate in this program and looks forward to making these resources available to those who may benefit from them.
For additional information about the Blue Envelope Program or to obtain an envelope, please contact or stop by the Vermillion Police Department.
