Sustainable Jersey® is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term. Local government participation is strictly voluntary and never mandated. Sustainable Jersey is New Jersey based and consensus driven. Certification actions are developed through an ongoing process of discussion and research that includes the participation of over 150 New Jersey leaders, experts, and organizations including state agencies, universities, non-profit organizations, and business leaders.

When ordering takeout, opt to use what you already have at home or only ask for the products you actually need. By avoiding unnecessary single-use plastic, these small actions help keep the environment clean and safe not only for humans but also for the many creatures and critters with whom we share the planet. A 2021 study on plastic ingestion found that at least 1,565 species across the globe have been recorded consuming plastic.
