Repair work is underway at the Endicott DMV and we are hopeful that we can reopen the office in December! While we know that this necessary temporary closure has not been easy for our customers and staff, we appreciate everyone's patience as the building owner completes the needed repairs. Our Binghamton DMV and our mobile units continue to serve our customers, with Saturday hours held at the Binghamton DMV until our Endicott office reopens.

Home stretch to election day! Out tonight in Vestal with Pete DeLucia for Broome County Judge meeting voters at their doors! Pete has the relevant experience as a former prosecutor and currently serves as law clerk in County Court. He'll be a great County Court Judge!

Today was the official opening of the new Broome-Tioga BOCES School of Practical Nursing facility in Johnson City! Love to see the reuse of the historic gymnasium building of the old Johnson City CSD High School on Main Street. With 90 students as well as faculty and staff, this new state of the art facility is preparing participants for great careers in healthcare. And thank you Mark and Rebecca Lane from William H. Lane Incorporated for your commitment to restoring this historic building!

Had a great night knocking on doors tonight with my good friend Broome County Legislator Matt Pasquale, District 7 in the Boswell Hill neighborhood. Matt has done an outstanding job representing his district by reducing County property taxes and supporting local emergency services agencies like West Corners Fire and Maine Emergency Squad, Inc. It was great catching up with lots of voters that I met last year and sharing the good work Matt has been doing in the County Legislature!

It's 🗺️ 𝙈𝙖𝙥 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 🗺️!

Each week, we share a map from our collection of about 4,000 items!

This 1930 map of Christ Episcopal Church, Binghamton shows the location of the former cemetery and rectory. The cemetery was removed shortly thereafter, with most of the remains reinterred at Spring Forest Cemetery. While the neighborhood has changed dramatically, the church building has remained a landmark in Binghamton for nearly 200 years.

Out knocking on doors today with my friend Phil Strawn who is running for County Legislator! So many great responses from voters of all political parties to Phil's message of keeping our neighborhoods safe, supporting our senior citizens and Veterans, and continuing to reduce County property taxes!

Big news today as the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier cut the ribbon on their new Crisis Stabilization Center on the Northside of Binghamton. The Center will be open 24-7-365 and offer voluntary stabilization services and supports to individuals of any age experiencing a crisis relating to mental health or substance use symptoms. This is a big step forward in our continuum of care for individuals in need of assistance!

It's 🗺️ 𝙈𝙖𝙥 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙮 🗺️!

Each week, we share a map from our collection of about 4,000 items!

This 1872 map of the intersection of Clinton and Front Streets in Binghamton marks the creation of the neighborhood known as Dwightsville, a development by former Binghamton Mayor and Civil War Colonel Walton D. Dwight.

The plan was to build single family homes on land previously owned by Senator Daniel Dickinson. However, Dwight's most notable work was a luxury hotel, Dwight House, at the location of plot No. 4 on this map. The designer of the Dwight House was none other than well known local architect Isaac Perry — noted for his work on the Phelps Mansion, Perry Building, Broome County Courthouse, Inebriate Asylum and probably most famously as the final architect on the New York State Capitol Building.

Dwight quickly fell into financial hardship with his assets seized by creditors before he passed away in 1878. The hotel was later converted into apartments and was eventually razed in 1982. The Broome County Health Department now sits at the former site of the Dwight House. More modern revitalization efforts have led to the First Ward Action Council "New Dwightsville" project that restored several historic homes along this section of Front Street in Binghamton to their former glory.

Being a part of this community for many years, one of the things that has always stood out is how much people truly care and give of their time to make it a great place to live. There are so many opportunities to help, and one of our favorites each year is yesterday's Broome County Environmental Management Council Riverbank Cleanup with Vestal Rotary Club. It's great to be part of a big effort Countywide to keep our natural areas looking beautiful!
