🚒 Working Together to Save Lives! 🚒

The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and the Kosciusko Community Foundation for their efforts to provide smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to all the homes throughout Kosciusko County!

At the Coroner’s Office, we understand firsthand how quickly tragedy can strike and how important early detection can be. Something as simple as a working smoke or carbon monoxide detector can mean the difference between life and death.

These are the kinds of community partnerships that make Kosciusko County a safer place to live. By taking proactive steps to protect our residents, we can help prevent tragedies before they happen.

Thank you for investing in the safety and well-being of our community. Your efforts will undoubtedly help save lives! ❤️

MEET THE TEAM | Chief Deputy Coroner Alicia Mediano

The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office is proud to introduce Chief Deputy Coroner Alicia Mediano, whose experience, leadership, and heart for serving others make her an incredible asset to our team and the people of Kosciusko County.

Alicia has a strong background in emergency medicine, death investigation, and public safety. She is a licensed paramedic, Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator, and EMS Director for Lutheran EMS. Her extensive experience in emergency medicine and leadership brings valuable knowledge and perspective to her work in the Coroner’s Office, especially when working alongside law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, hospitals, and other community partners.

Her commitment to our community extends well beyond her roles in EMS and the Coroner’s Office. Alicia helps lead Kosciusko County’s LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Su***de Survivors), helping ensure families impacted by su***de loss receive compassion, support, and connections to important resources.

Alicia also serves on the county’s Su***de Overdose Fatality Review Team, working alongside community partners to address substance use and overdose-related issues. In addition, she helps lead critical incident stress debriefings for our local public safety agencies, providing an important resource for first responders following particularly difficult or traumatic calls. Her understanding of both emergency response and the impact these situations can have on those who serve makes her a tremendous resource to first responders throughout our county.

Public service is also a commitment shared by Alicia and her family. Her husband serves as a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Deputy, and together they have dedicated themselves to serving the community they call home.

As Chief Deputy Coroner, Alicia is someone who understands that our responsibility extends beyond investigating a death—it also means treating every individual with dignity, supporting grieving families, and taking care of the first responders and community partners we work beside.

Her leadership, experience, and willingness to step up wherever she is needed make our office and our entire public safety community stronger.

Thank you, Alicia, for everything you do for the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and for your continued dedication to serving Kosciusko County!

A strong emergency response starts long before the call ever comes in.

Last evening, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Kosciusko County Emergency Management Agency enjoyed spending time with members of the Kosciusko County Fire Association at their annual Fish Fry.

Gatherings like this give us an opportunity to connect outside of an emergency scene, strengthen the relationships between our agencies, and continue building the teamwork that is so important when we’re called to serve.

We’re grateful for the firefighters across Kosciusko County who give their time and talents to protect their neighbors, and we appreciate the partnership we share with them.

Thank you to the Kosciusko County Fire Association for a great evening and for bringing everyone together.

🇺🇸 Our Coroner is Rocking for Heroes! 🇺🇸

Today, Kosciusko County Coroner Tyler Huffer will take his seat in the Rockathon Fundraising Showdown to support Warriors Mount Up!

The Rockathon raises funds to provide complimentary services to veterans and first responders through the Warriors Mount Up program. The challenge is simple: each participant takes a seat in a rocking chair and keeps rocking until they reach their individual fundraising goal!

As Coroner, Tyler has the privilege of working alongside our community’s first responders and seeing firsthand the dedication and sacrifices they make every day. Today is an opportunity to give back.

Tyler’s goal is to raise $5,000, with proceeds helping provide services to veterans and first responders at no charge.

Our office is proud to support Tyler and this important mission!

🪑🇺🇸 Help our Coroner reach $5,000 and Rock for Heroes!

Thank you Kosciusko County for "Compassionate Quilts Program" In Warsaw and the cities and towns of Kosciusko County, some of the hardest moments arrive without warning. When they do, the Coroner’s Office is often the first official presence a family meets.

Coroner Tyler Huffer has long believed that duty does not end with investigation and paperwork. It includes how a community treats its own in grief. That belief is now stitched into fabric. The office has launched Compassionate Quilts, a program that replaces the usual sterile sheets used to cover the deceased with handmade quilts.

Each quilt is meant to travel with the loved one, offering families something warmer and more human than clinical covering.

”The idea is simple and deeply local. Volunteer quilters sew pieces that carry care in every stitch. A small tag can travel with the finished work: “Made with care. Given with love. Wrapped in dignity.” The quilts stay with the family afterward if they wish, a lasting reminder that neighbors showed up when it mattered most.

Quilters can donate finished pieces or materials. Anyone with questions can reach to [email protected] or 979-320-7650.

Huffer’s office already emphasizes communication with families and other agencies. Compassionate Quilts extends that same instinct into the most intimate part of the work: how a person is presented and how their family is received.

In a county where people still know their neighbors, the program treats dignity as something the whole community can help provide. The invitation is open. Bring a sewing machine, leftover fabric, or simply the willingness to stitch something kind.

In Kosciusko County, even the darkest hours can be met with something made by hand and given with love.

MEET THE TEAM | KOSCIUSKO COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE

Coroner Tyler Huffer and Chief Deputy Coroner Alicia Mediano are honored to guide the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and serve alongside the dedicated men and women who make up our team. It is an honor to work together in service to the families and communities of Kosciusko County.

Over the next several weeks and months, we’ll be taking you behind the scenes of the Coroner’s Office through videos and spotlights. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the individuals who serve our county, learn about their backgrounds and experience, and better understand the important responsibilities of the Coroner’s Office.

Our work extends far beyond responding when a death occurs. We work throughout the year with law enforcement, first responders, healthcare professionals, funeral homes, community organizations, and prevention programs. We also participate in education, fatality review efforts, community outreach, and initiatives designed to help identify trends and prevent future deaths.

While much of our work happens during some of the most difficult moments a family will ever experience, our commitment to Kosciusko County continues long after the initial call.

Through these upcoming spotlights, we hope to give our community a better understanding of who we are, what we do, and how the Coroner’s Office works to serve Kosciusko County every day.

Stay tuned as we introduce you to the dedicated men and women of the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

🇺🇸 Comfort, Compassion & Community 🇺🇸

The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aleta Smith for her generous donation of several beautiful patriotic quilts, along with a special baby quilt, to our Coroner’s Quilt Program.

These quilts are used to respectfully cover and care for those who have passed away, offering an added measure of dignity and compassion during some of life’s most difficult moments.

We would also like to recognize Deputy Carla for taking the lead on this endeavor and helping grow the Quilt Program through her dedication. We are equally grateful to all of the generous individuals throughout Kosciusko County who have donated quilts and supported this program. Every donation is a meaningful act of kindness that helps us care for our community with dignity and compassion.

“We are incredibly thankful for Carla, and everyone throughout our community who has supported this program. Each quilt is a reminder of the compassion and kindness that makes Kosciusko County such a special place.”
— Tyler Huffer, Kosciusko County Coroner

Thank you to everyone who has helped make the Coroner’s Quilt Program possible. ❤️🇺🇸
