Before Fall Break, fourth grade students explored economics and entrepreneurship. They learned how people come up with business ideas, how profit works, and how supply and demand can affect a business. Students were able to hear from one of their own classmates, Corbin, who started his own business this past summer selling freshly squeezed lemonade out of his parents’ food truck!
Corbin shared his first-hand experience as an entrepreneur and answered questions about what it takes to start and run a business. Students learned why he decided to sell lemonade, how his family helped him get started, what supplies he needed to purchase, and how he determined his prices. He also explained how he estimated how much lemonade to make, what happened when demand was higher than expected, and what he did with the money he earned. He also shared his biggest challenge and what he would do differently if he started the business again. His answer? Add air conditioning to the food truck! Corbin even brought in some of his delicious freshly squeezed lemonade for everyone to try!
We loved hearing Corbin share his experience and seeing our students make real-world connections to what they learned in the classroom. Way to go Corbin!
