Our votes and our voices matter. Like faith, democracy is a shared practice. We have a duty to the communities we serve to show up with a clear moral voice and demand more.

Residents across the District are tired of having their rights and opportunities disregarded. As communities of faith and values, we do not consent.

Communities of faith safeguard us when the system fails. And undoing the harm caused by the latest wave of American fascism requires people united in collective commitment.

Even without the occupation, the threat to D.C. home rule often lurks in the background. We cannot pray the occupation away. Now is the time for right faith and right action.

Speaking during yesterday's Early Vote action, Rabbi Kelly Whitehead of Temple Micah reminds us that "every person carries a sacred worth that no government can grant and no government should be allowed to take away."

Our votes matter. D.C. decides who leads and how we are governed. Early Vote Centers open Monday, October 26 through Sunday, November 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Stand Up And Vote Together!

WIN and DC Faith Leaders are gathered at MLK Library to vote together and show our district neighbors that we are not afraid to vote and stand up for the right of every citizen to vote and have their votes counted. We’re here as faith leaders will vote together, and sing together as a visible reminder of our commitment and unity.

Monday, October 26 marks the first day of early voting, and we’re gathering with faith leaders from across the District to stand up for DC residents’ right to self-governance and vote together. Will you join us?

First, we’ll meet at 12 Noon at Freedom Plaza and rally to Let The People Vote, in partnership with faith communities and networks in DC.

Then, we’ll gather at the MLK Library at 1 PM for a brief press conference and to vote, showing our district neighbors that we stand firm against authoritarian threats. Clergy and Faith Leaders are invited to wear stoles or vestments from your tradition to both events.

Even if you’re not a DC Resident, we invite you to join us in solidarity.

This is our time to raise our voice and put our faith in action with hands and feet. We hope you’ll join us on Monday for one or both events!

4 Columbans joined representatives from WIN, the Fair Budget Coalition, Just Recovery DC, and Free DC to pack the Council chambers for a hearing on raising revenues to help pay for the programs that support our most vulnerable residents. As the long-awaited D.C. Council revenue hearing begins, we want to share this moment from WIN’s May 2026 nonpartisan candidate forum. Nadia with DCFPI made a clear case for progressive tax increases to support vital, lifesaving programs. She asked all the mayoral and at-large council candidates present if they would support it.

Eight out of nine gave an unqualified yes, and one hedged just a bit.

We need our policymakers to say and do the right things not only when it’s easy but especially when it’s hard. These urgent times demand moral clarity, and if a budget is a moral document, then what revenue makes that budget possible?

Taxing concentrated wealth is popular. And everyone who wanted support from the over 700 attendees at Union Temple Baptist said they supported it. The current crisis facing our city demands political expedience and revenue increases to make D.C. livable for all our communities for years to come.

It’s the moral path, and we need our elected officials to take a strong stand when we need them, not just when they want our votes.

Yesterday, was a busy day at Council as WIN leaders and allies testified at the DC Council to say NO to a gas plant built in the neighborhoods surrounding RFK. Instead, on the site we want to see healthy & affordable housing, community amenities, and innovative renewable technologies.
