Retirement Notice:
Senior Captain Dan Buentello began his career with the Wayland Fire Department as a member of the Call Fire Department before being appointed as a full time Firefighter/EMT on January 11, 1994.
Throughout his career, Captain Buentello demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the department, his fellow firefighters, and the community he served. He was a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management Team and, following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, was deployed to the World Trade Center in New York City, where he spent a week assisting in the response and supporting those affected by the tragedy.
Captain Buentello continued to advance through the ranks of the Wayland Fire Department, progressing from Private to Lieutenant and ultimately to Captain, where he earned the distinction of Senior Captain.
An avid diver, Captain Buentello’s passion and expertise in diving translated naturally into his service with District 14 Dive Rescue Team, where he became a valued and respected member.
One of Captain Buentello’s greatest passions was public education. Through the SAFE Program, he dedicated countless hours to teaching children about fire safety in the schools. He also shared his knowledge and experience with the senior community through fire safety programs at the Council on Aging.
Throughout his career, Captain Buentello has achieved many accomplishments and has given countless hours of service to the Wayland Fire Department and the Town of Wayland. More importantly, he has made a lasting impact on the department, his fellow firefighters, and the community he has proudly served for more than three decades.
Captain Buentello, thank you for your years of service, your dedication, your leadership, and your commitment to the Town of Wayland. Congratulations on your well earned retirement.
