Scammers are getting creative, and we've noticed an increase in scams lately, especially targeting seniors in our community.
Whether you're shopping online or in person, a few simple precautions can help keep your money and personal information safe!
🛒 Verify Online Stores: Be cautious of shopping links you see on social media. Instead of clicking the link, go directly to the retailer's website by typing the address yourself. Make sure the website starts with "https" and double-check that you're shopping with a legitimate business. Remember, just because a website looks real doesn't mean it is!
💳 Tap to Pay: Whenever possible, use tap to pay instead of swiping or inserting your card. It's a safer way to pay and can help protect your card information from skimming devices.
✋ Don't Hand Off Your Card: Never let someone else use your debit or credit card, and don't allow a salesperson or anyone else to walk away with it. Keep your card in sight during every transaction.
❤️ We also have a favor to ask: Check in on the seniors in your life. Take a few minutes to talk with your parents, grandparents, neighbors, or friends about how to shop safely and recognize potential scams.
A quick conversation today could save someone from becoming a victim tomorrow.
Let's look out for each other, Weatherford! 💙
