Maggie's Love Boxes began in 2008 to honor the life of and continue the legacy of Maggie Lynn Achuff, a "forever 4-year-old." Maggie courageously fought Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer in the brain. Her family allowed us to walk alongside them during this trial as Maggie endured many medical treatments. When Maggie passed away, we promised the Achuff family that we would keep her legacy alive. Our goal is to provide a little bit of normalcy to the patients and their families. The patients could be going through their hardest day and our dream is that the contents of these boxes can help to have something fun to focus on while they play with the contents of the boxes. The boxes are full of items that we hope will bring a smile to the children's faces and help create a special moment of simple joy for the children during their stay, the siblings that are nervous, and their courageous parents. Maggie’s currently delivers LOVE boxes and Bundles to two hospitals, Children’s Hospital in King of Prussia and Nemours/Alfred duPont Hospital for children in Wilmington. The love boxes contain NEW items that the children play with on a standard hospital table. We supply love boxes to infants, toddlers, preschool, elementary, middle school and teens. We recently added special Love boxes made for patients battling self-harm tendencies. In addition, we pack care bags for parents whose infants are hospitalized. In 2026 we expanded to include Love Bundles. Our new initiative focuses on patients who come to the hospital for treatment for assault, trauma, accidents, and/or abuse. Often their clothes are surrendered. Our goal is to supply Love bundles to help restore their dignity and provide them comfort. The bundles will contain robes, pjs, t-shirts, sweatpants and a fuzzy comfy blanket. Children of all ages arrive with these issues, the ED staff has asked us to supply items from birth through teen. We collect the following items.
• Comfy robes in various sizes
• Fuzzy blankets (neutral colors)
• T-shirts long sleeve and short sleeve
• Sweatpants
• Pajama sets
Maggie taught us so much, the most important thing that really stood out to us was that families should never have to walk this journey alone. The items we provide aren’t “cures”, but they can help remind the children that they are thought of. One hospital. One family. One patient at a time.
