Meet our newest animal ambassador, a Western hognose snake!
This adorable gal is just four months old and came to Dodge from a breeder in Virginia. She's settling into her new home wonderfully and is already a staff favorite!
Western hognose snakes are native to Minnesota and found in dry prairie and oak savanna habitats. In the wild, they eat toads, frogs, salamanders, and small rodents, subduing their prey with a mildly toxic saliva.
They get their name from their adorable, upturned snout, which they use for digging and burrowing.
Right now, she’s spending lots of time with our team as she gets comfortable being handled by people. As she grows, these experiences will help prepare her to head out on programs and introduce students to snakes and the important role they play in our environment.
Come say hi to her in our Main Office, next to Bowtie, our bull snake!
