Our 4th annual Paws for a Cause raised $4,297, topping last year’s total!

Through the Schools Against Cancer program, Roswell Park is able to donate $20 for every $1 we raised. That brings our total donation amount to over $80,000. We cannot thank the community enough for their support in helping make this event a huge success each year.

Mr. Morton is back this year with his Animal of the Month, sharing a different animal (or group of animals) with our students each month. In true Halloween fashion, this month he brought in some creepy crawlies: tarantulas and giant millipedes!

On Friday, October 23, the West Valley Cross Country team traveled to Bemus Point Country Club for the CCAA All-County Meet.

The boys varsity race opened the evening, and Noah Klahn made the most of his final CCAA competition. Entering the race as the top seed, Noah established his position at the front of the pack early and maintained the lead from start to finish, ultimately winning by 15 seconds. His performance became even more impressive when it was confirmed that he had broken the course record set last year by Carson Zuba.

The boys modified race followed the varsity competition, with Carter Widrig and Rosario Messina representing West Valley. Carter delivered his best performance of the season, running his first mile in under seven minutes and finishing nearly 50 seconds faster than he had earlier in the season. Rosario competed at the CCAA All-County Meet for the first time and focused on running a strong race and finishing well. He accomplished both goals, closing with a powerful finishing kick.

In the girls competition, Liliana Krueger and Cordelia Robbins also turned in their best performances of the season. Cordelia shaved nearly two minutes off her previous mile pace and maintained a strong effort throughout the race. Liliana kept a steady pace and showed determination at the finish, outkicking another competitor as she gave everything she had in the final stretch. Both runners concluded their seasons on a high note.

The meet marked the final race of the season for West Valley’s modified runners, who all represented WVCS admirably.

Noah will now turn his attention to the Section VI Class D Championships at Elma Meadows on Friday, October 30. Ranked as the No. 1 seed in Class D heading into the sectional competition, he will look to carry his momentum into the postseason.

West Valley Central School students in grades 9-12 recently toured Cutco Cutlery Corporation, Solepoxy, Inc., and Eaton Cooper Power Systems to learn about careers in advanced manufacturing. The field trip was sponsored by Cattaraugus Allegany Dream It Do It Center (CA DIDI)

Students saw how Cutco knives are made in Olean, learned how Sol Epoxy creates specialty epoxy-based materials for other manufacturers, and visited Eaton Cooper Power Systems, which makes medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment used around the world.

The visits gave students a firsthand look at local manufacturing careers and helped them connect classroom learning with the real world. Thank you to all three companies for hosting us!

Mrs. Green’s 2nd graders had a “Stuffy Day” on Friday filled with all things stuffed animals. They created stories about their stuffed animals, measured them to learn about standard and metric measurements, and even went on a scavenger hunt!
