STORM ADVISORY & HARBOR SAFETY NOTICE

With severe weather expected to impact the area, all yacht clubs, marinas, boat owners and mariners are urged to begin storm preparations immediately. Get your vessel and equipment secured early, remain off the water as conditions deteriorate, and continue monitoring local weather and marine forecasts. All vessel preparations must be COMPLETED BY FRIDAY.

DO NOT REMAIN ABOARD YOUR VESSEL DURING THE STORM!

Mariners should not attempt to ride out the storm aboard their vessels. Conditions on the water are expected to become extremely hazardous, and once the storm intensifies, emergency response and marine rescue operations may be significantly limited or unavailable.

No vessel is worth risking your life. Make arrangements now to be safely ashore well before conditions deteriorate.

COMPLETE STORM PREPARATIONS EARLY

All hauling, securing, and other storm preparations should be finished by Friday. Do not wait for winds and seas to increase before attempting to move, haul, or further secure a vessel.

VESSELS REMAINING ON MOORINGS

Owners leaving vessels in the water on their moorings should immediately inspect all mooring pennants, chafing gear, shackles, lines, and related hardware. Replace questionable equipment and double up lines where appropriate.

BATTERIES & BILGE PUMPS

Make sure vessel batteries are fully charged and automatic bilge pumps are functioning properly. Heavy rainfall and sea wash can quickly overwhelm a vessel that is unable to properly dewater.

Contact the Weymouth Police Marine Unit with any urgent questions or concerns.

09/02/2026

Last Sunday, we received reports of a vessel operating inside the designated swimming area at Lane Beach and ultimately tying up to the swimming platform.

This type of operation is illegal, dangerous, and unacceptable.

Massachusetts boating regulations prohibit the operation of a motorboat within 150 feet of a swimming area. Locally, we take that safety requirement even further by requiring vessels to remain 200 feet from the low-water mark.

There is no justification for operating a motorboat through an area where adults and children are swimming. A vessel, propeller, or even its wake can cause serious injury or death, and this operator unnecessarily placed numerous beachgoers at risk.

We put significant effort into keeping our waterways and beaches safe for our residents and visitors. Operating a vessel inside a designated swimming area will not be tolerated.

Boaters are expected to know the law, respect designated swimming areas, and operate responsibly.
