Late last year, following a strategic purchase that blocked development plans at a hub of outdoor recreation in the Flathead Valley, the stewards of the Whitefish Trail began laying plans for a newly acquired 35-acre property in the Beaver Lakes area north of town.

All summer long we’ve heard you wondering… What does a ‘Super’ El Niño mean for the upcoming season?! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♀️

Well, we crunched the numbers, and during our last ‘Super’ El Niño, Big Mountain held it’s own with 311” of snow!

We opened on 12/5/15 with 37” of pre-season snowfall, which quickly increased to 122” over the first 3 weeks! The snow stopped for a bit in early January, but fired right up again in the later part of the month ❄️

We then gradually made our way to 311” over the remaining couple of months, adding consistent snow each week. Mid-March was the standout period here, with 44” between 3/12 and 3/26.
