US Senator Rand Paul came to Stearns and also Cumberland Falls State Park yesterday. Not only was this a great experience, but we truly value the support the Senator gives us when it comes to federal agencies and problem solving.

Keep doing what you are doing. You are making a tremendous difference!

👋 Meet Our New Fiscal Court Intern — Dylan Strunk!

McCreary County Fiscal Court is excited to welcome Dylan Strunk, a senior at McCreary Central High School, as our new intern!

Dylan is a student in Colin Crabtree’s Internet Technologies class and developed an interest in web design through TSA (Technology Student Association). During his internship, Dylan will gain hands-on experience with web design and maintenance, scanning, indexing, filing, and other county government operations.

After graduation, Dylan plans to attend Somerset Community College and pursue a career in Information Technology. He says he is most looking forward to gaining experience, seeing how county government works, and developing skills that will help him in future IT positions.

This opportunity is made possible largely through Putting Young Kentuckians to Work through the Lake Cumberland Area Development District and WIOA, with assistance from McCreary County native Charlotte Smith and the relationship with McCreary County School District built and continued by Judge Jimmie W. Greene II and Economic Development Director Joshua Stephens.

We also appreciate Colin Crabtree, Principal Charlotte Barnett, and Director of CTE Dr. Kaitlyn Goins at McCreary Central High School for helping connect students with real-world opportunities.

Welcome aboard, Dylan! We’re glad to have you! 👏💻

Innovation + Education + Workforce = Opportunity

McCreary County was well represented at the 5th Annual Imagine the Possibilities Technology Showcase at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset! The event brought together emerging technologies including drones, AI, VR and more, giving a glimpse into how technology is reshaping tomorrow’s workforce. (The Center for Rural Development)

Judge Executive Jimmie W.Greene II, Economic Development Director Joshua Stephens, Emergency Management Director Stephen McKinney, and representatives from the Lake Cumberland Area Development District, Inc. were among those in attendance, building relationships and looking at ways these technologies can strengthen our communities, workforce and economy. LCADD serves McCreary and nine other counties with programs supporting local governments, businesses and regional development. (LCADD)

We were especially proud to see McCreary Central High School students and teachers Collin Crabtree and Travis Smith showcasing 3-D printing, website design, communications and drone technology through Raider Werx with Col. Louis Smith. Col. Smith shared how his extensive Army and Air Force experience, including working with aircraft, is now being passed on to students through a nonprofit effort made possible through his connection with Principal Charlotte Barnett. Also in attendance was Director of Federal Programs, Karen Kidd on behalf of McCreary County School District.

Emergency Management Director Stephen McKinney also made valuable connections with professionals in his field, while demonstrations showed how artificial intelligence is already changing industries and the skills employers need.

This is where community service meets workforce development, students solving real-world problems, experienced professionals passing along their knowledge, and community leaders connecting education with future careers.

Showcases like this could be a game changer for our region in the years ahead. When we expose our young people to tomorrow’s technology today, we aren’t just preparing them to find jobs, we’re giving them the tools to create opportunities right here at home.

McCreary County is ready to Imagine the Possibilities! 🇺🇸
