It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Sonoma County Fire District shares the passing of retired Battalion Chief, Michael Elson.
Chief Elson's legacy of service extended far beyond the fire service. Throughout his remarkable career, he served and built lasting relationships with Sonoma County Fire District, Windsor Fire, Sebastopol Fire, Bodega Bay Fire and the Sebastopol Police Department.
A respected leader, devoted father, trusted mentor, and true legend in the world of Special Operations, Mike dedicated his life to serving others. His knowledge, experience, leadership, and unwavering commitment to public safety left an extraordinary mark on the agencies, communities, and countless individuals fortunate enough to work alongside him. Mike never meet a dog, a fish or a helicopter he did not love and was the proudest of dads to his beautiful daughter.
Mike was more than a Battalion Chief. He was a mentor, a friend, and a brother to so many throughout the public safety community. His influence helped shape generations of firefighters and first responders, and his legacy will live on through those he trained, guided, and inspired.
On behalf of the entire Sonoma County Fire District family, we extend our deepest condolences to Mike's family, friends, and the many brothers and sisters in public safety who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest easy, Chief Elson, your legacy will never be forgotten!
Memorial service arrangements are being finalized in coordination with the family. Information regarding services and opportunities to honor Battalion Chief Elson will be shared once confirmed.
