🎃 Halloween treat bags are being delivered to Yolo County seniors and their beloved pets!

🐾 Treat bags for our furry friends are thanks to an inspiring Bat Mitzvah project by Aviella, who has raised funds, packed bags, and supported our MOW PAWS program for 10 months alongside Skyheart Sanctuary.

👻 A huge thank you as well to Alpha Gamma Omega Nu for their continued generosity—donating Halloween treat bags for our homebound seniors participating in our home-delivered meal program!

Together, we are making sure all our aging neighbors don’t feel forgotten. Help us deliver more smiles and support local seniors and their pets. Make a donation today at mowyolo.org/donate-2/ 🧡🖤

🚫 Myth: Meals on Wheels is just a food delivery service

✅ Fact: Every delivery includes a friendly, face-to-face visit and a crucial safety check with our seniors

Ruby L. from Davis says, “The social interaction I receive from the volunteers feeds my soul.” 💙

For many of our homebound seniors, our volunteers are the only people they will see that day. Especially during the cold winter months–when flu season is rampant and health challenges make it hard to leave the house–a warm smile can do so much to ensure our aging neighbors EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive.

🍽 The Stay Sharp: Nutrition for Brain Health presentation featured samples of a Mediterranean Chicken and White Bean Bowl recipe, showing seniors how what is on their plate can support brain health and may slow age-related cognitive decline.

This course was created by our talented dietetic intern, Shani Y’Kasa Smith as part of her internship with Meals on Wheels Yolo County. Thank you, Shani! 👏

For many local seniors, loneliness isn't just quiet—it's dangerous. Did you know severe isolation can be as harmful to a senior's health as smoking 16 ci******es a day?

After moving from Puerto Rico, Elida struggled to find connection, especially with other Spanish speakers. That changed when she discovered Cafe Yolo in Esparto. "It’s amazing to have the opportunity to enjoy a hot meal and to mingle with friends," Elida shared.

Cafe Yolo provides far more than nourishing, hot lunches—it offers a vibrant lifeline where seniors gather, build lasting friendships, and thrive together. 💚

The need in our community is urgent. Too many isolated seniors are still waiting for a hot meal and a friendly face. 🍽 You can change that today with a donation. Visit mowyolo.org/donate-2/ to make a gift to ensure no senior in Yolo County has to face hunger or isolation. Your support brings food, community, and hope, to help our aging neighbors EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive. 💙

Your donation invests in healthy outcomes for local seniors, as well as the opportunity to age in place longer.

More than just a meal—it’s a vital connection. 💚

Meet Jay and Catherine! For the past two years, this dedicated husband-and-wife duo from Davis has delivered so much more than food to our Meals on Wheels Yolo County neighbors. They offer warm conversation, essential wellness checks, and a bright spot with every front door delivery to vulnerable seniors in our community. 🍽

As Jay shares, "Some of the people we bring food to are in really bad shape. Some of them can't walk, have bad vision, or are living in poor conditions. We're happy that Meals on Wheels has volunteers checking on them."

Thank you, Jay and Catherine, for showing up week after week with open hearts, serving hands, and a kind smile. Your dedication helps ensure our aging neighbors can EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive. 💙💚

Join Meals on Wheels Yolo County to learn more about how nutrition and physical activity can help keep your bones strong! 💪

Bones are living tissue that stay strongest when they receive the right nutrients and regular movement. As we age, bone density naturally decreases, which raises the risk of fractures. The good news: diet and simple activity can help protect bone strength at any age. Join us to learn more!📍 See presentation dates and location at our website: https://mowyolo.org/nutrition-access/engagement/

🍽️ Please call 530-662-7035 or email [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance to reserve your spot for lunch.

As we age, it's normal to notice changes in memory and focus. Research on the MIND diet (a blend of the Mediterranean and DASH diets) shows that what's on
