Wet roads are back!

Rain can reduce visibility and make roads slick. Before you head out, make sure your windshield wipers are working properly, turn on your headlamps, increase your following distance, and slow down to match road conditions.

Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Period

CHP officers throughout California, including the Woodland Area, will be conducting a Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Period from Friday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m.

Our focus is simple: keeping you safe by removing impaired drivers from the road. If you drink or use drugs, don’t drive. Plan ahead and get home safely.

Early this morning, officers from the CHP Woodland Area responded to a crash on SR-16 westbound, west of the I-505 northbound on-ramp. A driver collided with a metal guardrail and narrowly avoided going over a dirt embankment. Following an investigation, the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Fortunately, no one was injured. If you’ve been drinking or using drugs, don’t get behind the wheel. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, call a rideshare, or find another safe way home. One bad decision can change lives forever.

A DUI isn’t worth it. The risk isn’t worth it. It’s not worth it.

Early this morning, officers from the CHP Woodland Area responded to a crash on County Road 99W, north of County Road 6. A tractor operator swerved to avoid colliding with another motorist, causing the tractor to overturn. Fortunately, the operator sustained only minor injuries.

This crash serves as a good reminder that in rural communities like Yolo County, farm equipment has every right to use our roadways. These vehicles often travel at slower speeds and require extra time and space to maneuver. Be patient, avoid unsafe passing, and stay alert, especially on narrow county roads. A few extra moments of caution can help prevent a serious crash and keep everyone on our roadways safe.

With several very hot days ahead, take extra precautions before hitting the road. Pack plenty of water and stay hydrated, even on short trips. Check your vehicle’s tires, coolant, and battery before traveling, and never leave children or pets unattended inside a vehicle. If your vehicle becomes disabled, move it safely off the roadway if possible, stay with your vehicle, and call for assistance. A little preparation can make all the difference when traveling in extreme heat. Stay safe and stay cool!

Helping Hands on the Highway

Today, one of the CHP Woodland Area’s newest officers, Officer Godinez, stopped to assist a motorist with changing a flat tire on southbound I-5 near County Road 12.

If you experience vehicle trouble, pull over as far off the roadway as safely possible and turn on your hazard lights. If it isn’t safe to exit your vehicle, remain inside with your seat belt fastened and call the California Highway Patrol for assistance.

We’re always here to help and are committed to keeping California’s roadways safe for everyone.

Following one poor decision, this driver’s world was turned upside down.

Officers recently completed a crash investigation on County Road 24 east of County Road 97. During the investigation, the driver admitted to being distracted by their cell phone while driving.

Fortunately, the driver sustained only minor injuries. This crash could have ended much differently.

Please let this serve as a reminder: when you’re behind the wheel, put the phone down and drive distraction-free. No text, call, or notification is worth risking your life or the lives of others.
