Fun Fact Friday!!

Ever notice a squirrel in the fall darting around like it's completely losing its mind?
There’s actually a reason for that! A single squirrel can stash 3,000 to 10,000 nuts each autumn using a behavior called scatter-hoarding. That’s a LOT of tiny treasure hunting!🐿️🍂

In celebration of Ohio Soil Health Week (November 8-14, 2026), The Ohio State University’s Agroecosystems Management Program (AMP) will host a free movie night at The Lyric Theatre in downtown Wooster on Thursday, November 12, 7-9:30 p.m. The event is open to farmers, agricultural and conservation professionals, students, or anyone in the community who wants to learn or discuss soil health.

The event will feature episodes 1 and 4 of “Roots So Deep (You Can See the Devil Down There).” This 4-part documentary series explores how adaptive cattle grazing practices may restore soil health, improve farm profitability, enhance biodiversity, and mitigate climate change. Between episodes, there will be a short intermission where attendees can socialize with other movie goers and learn about ongoing Ohio State research examining the environmental and economic impacts of different grazing systems in the Midwest.

Fun Fact Friday!! 🌻

Do you enjoy watching the leaves change colors? 🍁 Us too!
Ever wonder why it happens?

As days get shorter and there’s less sunlight, trees produce less chlorophyll. The green pigment that helps them make food. When chlorophyll fades away, the other pigments in the leaves finally get their chance to shine, revealing those beautiful oranges, reds, yellows, and browns we love every fall. 🍂

You know what they say: live, laugh, leaves 🍂

🍂 Leave the Leaves! 🍁

🍂 Leaves provide habitat for insects and wildlife.
🌱 As they break down, they return nutrients to the soil.
💧 Keeping leaves out of streets and storm drains helps prevent excess nutrients from entering our streams, lakes, and rivers.

Instead of bagging leaves, consider leaving them in garden beds, under trees and shrubs or mulching them! 💚🌎

Fun Fact Friday!
Did you know Ohio is home to the largest pumpkin pie ever baked? 🎃🥧

Yep! On September 25, 2010, in New Bremen, Ohio, a record-breaking pumpkin pie was created weighing a whopping 3,699 pounds! The Guinness Book of World Records made it official… and honestly, that’s enough pie to feed a whole town.
