Maxine is ‘n passievolle hokkie-afrigter en skeidsregter wat haar liefde vir die spel daagliks met haar spelers deel. As afrigter van ons 16A-hokkiedogters en 1ste span seuns, fokus sy daarop om spelers te ontwikkel, hul selfvertroue te bou en hulle te help om hul volle potensiaal te bereik.

Haar grootste sporthoogtepunt was die voorreg om SA Hokkie tydens Bokkieweek te verteenwoordig. ‘n Prestasie wat getuig van haar toewyding en talent op die hokkieveld.

Geïnspireer deur haar ma en gemotiveer deur haar gunsteling-aanhaling, “Tough times never last, only tough people last,” leef Maxine die waardes van deursettingsvermoë, harde werk en veerkragtigheid uit.

Wanneer sy nie op die Astro is nie, geniet sy dit om te hardloop en te bak, en haar ideale vakansie is enige plek langs die see.

Ons is trots om Maxine deel van die Marais Viljoen-sportfamilie te hê en waardeer die energie, passie en voorbeeld wat sy aan ons spelers bied. 💙💛

♟️ Chess Coach Profile : Meet Coach Devon MacDonald! ♟️

Devon serves as Chess Team Coach for both our junior and senior players, bringing passion, dedication, and a love for the game to every training session. Through his belief that “Anyone can get better with hard work,” he encourages learners to grow in confidence, develop their skills, and enjoy every step of their chess journey.

His commitment to developing young talent has already contributed to players competing at interregional and Junior South Africa Chess Championships, while several club members have achieved official chess titles and tournament success.

With a coaching philosophy that “Age is but a number,” Devon believes every player has the potential to improve and achieve great things.

Calvin is passionate about developing young chess players and firmly believes that no student should ever be left behind. His coaching philosophy is simple yet powerful: “I can train anyone.”

His dedication to the game has helped numerous players achieve official Chess Titles, while he has also enjoyed success at the board himself by defeating several titled players throughout his chess journey.

Mr MacDonald approaches coaching with patience, commitment and a genuine passion for helping learners reach their full potential. Whether at South Knights Chess Club in Meyersdal or representing Marais Viljoen, he continues to make a meaningful impact on the growth of chess in our school.
