Die VF Plus is bekommerd oor ’n reeks huisrooftogte in Kaapstad se noordelike voorstede wat vermoedelik met die sogenaamde “Crowbar Gang” verband hou. Bejaardes tel ook onder die slagoffers.

Die jongste voorval het Vrydag 30 Oktober 2026 omstreeks 03:15 in Aurora, Durbanville, plaasgevind.

Vier gewapende persone met klapmusse en handskoene het ’n bejaarde egpaar in Maritzstraat in hul slaap oorrompel, vasgebind nadat hulle toegang met ’n koevoet gekry het.

Ná sowat 30 minute het hulle te voet met selfone, skootrekenaars, juwele en bankkaarte gevlug.

Ná ’n openbare waarskuwing het talle inwoners soortgelyke voorvalle in Goodwood, Bellville, Brackenfell, Kuilsrivier, Parow, Durbanville en omliggende gebiede aangemeld.

Die modus operandi is deurgaans dieselfde: Koevoete word gebruik om veiligheidshekke oop te dwing terwyl inwoners tuis is.

Die VF Plus het senior polisielede versoek om berading en ondersteuning aan die bejaarde egpaar in Durbanville te reël. Slagoffers van gewelddadige huisrooftogte verdien meer as bloot ’n saaknommer.

Volgens inligting is ’n taakspan reeds besig om die verdagtes te soek.

Die toenemende aantal voorvalle beklemtoon die dringendheid van sigbare vordering met die ondersoek. Die VF Plus sal die Stad Kaapstad se direktoraat vir veiligheid en sekuriteit amptelik nader om vas te stel of die stad se ondersoekeenheid die polisie kan help.

Alle beskikbare samewerking tussen die polisie en die Stad Kaapstad se wetstoepassings- en ondersoekeenhede moet aangewend word om hierdie misdadigers in hul spore te stuit, veral waar weerlose bejaardes in hul eie huise geteiken word.

Die VF Plus doen ’n beroep op inwoners om waaksaam te bly, veiligheidshekke en deure behoorlik te beveilig, alarmstelsels en kameras gereeld na te gaan en verdagte persone of voertuie onmiddellik aan te meld. Moenie gewapende verdagtes konfronteer nie en versprei slegs geverifieerde waarskuwings.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is concerned about a series of house robberies in Cape Town’s northern suburbs that are reportedly linked to the so-called “Crowbar Gang”. Elderly residents are also among the victims.

The latest incident occurred at approximately 03:15 on Friday, 30 October 2026, in Aurora, Durbanville.

Four armed individuals wearing balaclavas and gloves overpowered an elderly couple who were asleep in their home in Maritz Street. The perpetrators gained entry using a crowbar and tied the couple up.

After approximately 30 minutes, they fled on foot with mobile phones, laptops, jewellery and bank cards.

Following a public warning, numerous residents reported similar incidents in Goodwood, Bellville, Brackenfell, Kuils River, Parow, Durbanville and surrounds.

The modus operandi is similar in all the incidents: Crowbars are used to force open security gates while residents are at home.

The Freedom Front Plus requested police members to ensure that the elderly couple in Durbanville receive the counselling and support they need. Victims of violent house robberies deserve more than merely being assigned a case number.

According to available information, a task team is already searching for the suspects.

The rising number of incidents highlights the urgent need for tangible progress with the investigation. The Freedom Front Plus will formally approach the City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Directorate to establish whether the City’s investigation unit could assist the police.

The police and the City of Cape Town's law enforcement and investigative units should collaborate as closely as possible to stop these criminals in their tracks – particularly as vulnerable elderly people are being targeted in their own homes.

The Freedom Front Plus urges residents to remain vigilant, ensure that security gates and doors are properly secured, regularly check alarm systems and cameras, and immediately report suspicious individuals or vehicles. Do not confront armed suspects, and share only verified warnings.

Die VF Plus se Robertson-tak het die Sip & Savour-feesnaweek in Langeberg benut om die party se sigbaarheid te versterk en sy boodskap onder inwoners en besoekers te versprei.

Sip & Savour @ The River – The Rietvallei Edition vind op 31 Oktober en 1 November 2026 by Rietvallei W**e Estate buite Robertson plaas en bied wynproe, kos, lewendige vermaak en gesinsaktiwiteite.

Volgens die tak word sowat 15 000 tot 20 000 besoekers oor die feesnaweek in die omgewing verwag. Die tak het dié geleentheid aangegryp om die VF Plus bekend te stel en talle pamflette uit te deel.

Die sigbaarheidsaksie was volgens die tak baie suksesvol en het ’n waardevolle geleentheid gebied om persoonlik met mense kontak te maak.

The VF Plus Robertson branch used the Sip & Savour festival weekend in Langeberg to strengthen the party’s visibility and share its message with residents and visitors.

Sip & Savour @ The River – The Rietvallei Edition takes place on 31 October and 1 November 2026 at Rietvallei W**e Estate outside Robertson, offering w**e tastings, food, live entertainment and family activities.

According to the branch, approximately 15,000 to 20,000 visitors are expected in the area over the festival weekend. The branch seized the opportunity to introduce people to the VF Plus and distribute numerous pamphlets.

The branch described the visibility drive as very successful, providing a valuable opportunity to connect with people in person.

Onder leiding van Christo Vermaak, die VF Plus-kandidaat vir wyk 4 in Oudtshoorn, en Gloria Kasayi, die VF Plus-kandidaat vir wyk 8, het ’n geesdriftige span van sowat 15 VF Plus-lede en ondersteuners vandag, Vrydag 30 Oktober, die strate ingevaar.

Die span het ’n sterk teenwoordigheid in Bongolethu en regoor wyk 4 en wyk 8 gehad en die VF Plus se boodskap van skoon, verantwoordelike en doeltreffende plaaslike regering persoonlik aan inwoners oorgedra.

Die sigbaarheidsaksie en gemeenskapsuitreik is voorafgegaan deur ’n opleidingsessie aangebied deur Christina Muller, VF Plus-raadslid en die party se kandidaat vir wyk 5 in Oudtshoorn.

𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘 𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗦 𝗘𝗡 𝗚𝗢𝗘𝗜𝗘 𝗚𝗘𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗞𝗞𝗘

Inwoners het die span met vriendelike glimlagte en hartlike gesprekke verwelkom. Daar is tyd gemaak om te luister, vrae te bespreek en met mense oor hul woonbuurte en verwagtinge van plaaslike regering te gesels.

Vir Vermaak en Kasayi begin gemeenskapsdiens juis hier: deur tussen die mense te wees, te hoor wat hulle bekommer en hul behoeftes ernstig op te neem.

Die VF Plus se boodskap is duidelik: ’n munisipaliteit moet in diens van sy inwoners wees. Dit beteken:

• Eerlike en deursigtige bestuur, met verantwoordelike besteding van openbare geld.

• Betroubare basiese dienste en behoorlike instandhouding van paaie en infrastruktuur.

• Skoner, veiliger woonbuurte waar inwoners met waardigheid kan leef.

• Raadslede wat bereikbaar is, na inwoners luister en klagtes opvolg.

Vandag se aksie het dié boodskap tot by mense se voordeur gebring, met persoonlike kontak en gesprekke oor die sake wat hul daaglikse lewens raak.

Led by Christo Vermaak, the VF Plus candidate for Ward 4 in Oudtshoorn, and Gloria Kasayi, the VF Plus candidate for Ward 8, an enthusiastic team of about 15 VF Plus members and supporters took to the streets today, Friday, 30 October.

The team had a strong presence in Bongolethu and across Wards 4 and 8, personally sharing the VF Plus’s message of clean, accountable and effective local government with residents.

The visibility campaign and community outreach were preceded by a training session presented by Christina Muller, a VF Plus councillor and the party’s candidate for Ward 5 in Oudtshoorn.

𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗠 𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

Residents welcomed the team with friendly smiles and warm conversations. Time was taken to listen, discuss questions and speak to people about their neighbourhoods and expectations of local government.

For Vermaak and Kasayi, community service begins with being among residents, hearing their concerns and taking their needs seriously.

The VF Plus’s message is clear: a municipality must serve its residents. This means:

• Honest, transparent administration and responsible spending of public money.

• Reliable basic services and proper maintenance of roads and infrastructure.

• Cleaner, safer neighbourhoods where residents can live with dignity.

• Councillors who are accessible, listen to residents and follow up on complaints.

Today’s outreach brought this message to residents’ doorsteps through personal contact and conversations about the issues affecting their daily lives.
