Today, the KwaDukuza Local Municipality hosted its 6th KwaDukuza Open Streets Event on King Shaka Street, between Lindley Street and Cato Street.
The event commenced with a 2km walk through the KwaDukuza CBD, promoting healthy lifestyles while raising awareness about environmental issues and climate change.
The KwaDukuza Open Streets initiative forms part of the international Open Streets movement, which encourages the temporary closure of selected streets to motor vehicles and reopens them for pedestrians, cyclists, cultural activities, small businesses, and community interaction.
The event also aimed to promote sustainable urban living, environmental consciousness, healthy lifestyles, and stronger relationships between the municipality and the community.

GCIS will host the Youth Empowerment Seminars tomorrow at various locations across KwaZulu-Natal.
Various stakeholders will share information about youth empowerment opportunities and how the youth can access these.

Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Leon Schreiber, visited the Repatriation Centre at the Durban Drive-Inn today to assess operations and verification processes at the facility. During the visit, the Minister toured the on-site medical centre, Department of Home Affairs repatriation processing areas, and the marquee accommodating Malawian nationals, receiving briefings on the support services and procedures in place.

The current storage for iMvutshane Dam, which is the main source of water for iLembe District Municipality’s Greater Maphumulo area, is at 93% of its full supply capacity.

Community members, particularly young people, gathered at Umlazi T Section Community Hall for a Voter Registration Drive aimed at encouraging voter registration ahead of the upcoming voter registration weekend. The engagement highlighted the importance of active citizenry and participation in strengthening South Africa’s democracy.
Officials from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) were on-site to assist community members with voter registration, verification of registration status, and updating or confirming residential addresses to ensure they are registered in the correct voting district.

Today as part of Youth Month commemorations, the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe, handed over completed Social and Labour Plan (SLP) projects at Langalibomvu Secondary School and the newly constructed Nhlabane Road
in King Cetshwayo District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal. GCIS also handed out information on voter registration for the weekend 20-21 June 2016.
