Breede Valley Municipality informs residents that refuse and recycling collection schedules will be adjusted in certain areas due to the public holiday on Wednesday, 4 November 2026 (Voting Day).

Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the revised collection dates as indicated in the notice. All other collection days will continue as normal.

As the Breede Valley Municipality Council officially concludes its term of office under the leadership of Executive Mayor Ald. Antoinette Steyn, we are pleased to share the latest edition of the BVM Quarterly Newsletter. Breede Valley Municipality hereby informs residents and businesses of a planned interruption to the electricity supply on 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝟏 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟎𝟗:𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟔:𝟎𝟎.

📍 AFFECTED AREA
R202311 – 58 to 62 High Street (Erf 8416 and 840), including 29 Stockenstrom Street (Erf 845), ABSA Bank, Ou Dorp, Worcester.

🔧 REASON FOR THE INTERRUPTION
The interruption is necessary to carry out connection upgrade and maintenance work on the electricity distribution network. This work is aimed at addressing infrastructure maintenance requirements and supporting the continued operation of the electricity network.

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Residents and businesses in the affected area are urged to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the planned interruption.

Please note that the electricity supply cannot be guaranteed to remain off for the entire scheduled period. For safety reasons, all electrical installations must therefore be treated as LIVE throughout the interruption.

Consumers are also reminded that generators may not be connected to the electricity network unless they comply with the applicable requirements of SANS Regulation 8528/12. Consumers using generators must notify the designated contact person.

Should the planned work be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, such as adverse weather conditions, it will be rescheduled for another working day, and a new notice will be issued.

The Department of Home Affairs will extend its operational hours and conduct a Smart ID Card Collection Drive on 2, 3 and 4 November 2026. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these extended hours to access the available services

The Executive Mayor of Breede Valley Municipality (BVM), Ald. Antoinette Steyn, has expressed her heartfelt condolences following the passing of Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) Councillor Wilhelmina ‘Minnie’ Petersen, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Councillor Petersen served on the CWDM Council since 2021, dedicating herself to public service and the advancement of communities across the Cape Winelands.

As a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MAYCO) and Portfolio Holder for Rural and Social Development, she demonstrated a deep commitment to the programmes and initiatives under her portfolio, particularly those aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and families. Among the initiatives close to her heart was the sanitary towel and diaper programme, which also provided adult diapers to those in need. Through such interventions, she contributed towards restoring dignity, addressing essential needs and improving the quality of life of some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Executive Mayor Steyn said Councillor Petersen’s dedication to community development and her commitment to serving others would leave a meaningful legacy. “Her contribution to public service, particularly her passion for initiatives that directly improved the lives of vulnerable people, deserves recognition. Through her work, she helped ensure that essential support reached those who needed it most, while upholding the dignity and well-being of our communities.

On behalf of Breede Valley Municipality, the Executive Mayor extends her deepest sympathies to her family, friends, colleagues at the Cape Winelands District Municipality, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time. Breede Valley Municipality joins the broader Cape Winelands community in mourning this loss and extends its sincere condolences to all those affected.

The MMC for Sport and Recreation, Cllr. Bedworth, proudly congratulates Jayden Donnevic Willemse and Jermino “Yster” Fink from De Doorns on their outstanding achievement at the 2026 WPA Blackball World Championships in London, where they represented South Africa and were crowned Under-18 Doubles World Champions.

The talented duo, associated with the De Doorns Pool Academy (DDPA), showcased exceptional skill, precision, determination and teamwork throughout the competition, culminating in a remarkable victory against Malta in the Under-18 Doubles Grand Final. Their achievement is a moment of immense pride for De Doorns, the Breede Valley, the Western Cape and the entire nation.

Cllr. Bedworth expressed his pride in the young champions, highlighting the importance of investing in youth development and creating opportunities for young people to excel in sport. Their success demonstrates that talent and ambition can emerge from any community and that, with dedication, discipline and the right support, young people can compete and succeed on the world stage.

He also acknowledged the important role played by their families, coaches, mentors and the De Doorns Pool Academy in supporting and developing their talent. Their commitment and encouragement have helped these young athletes reach an extraordinary milestone and serve as an inspiration to aspiring sportspeople throughout the Breede Valley.

Jayden and Jermino’s victory is a powerful reminder of the sporting potential within our communities and the importance of continuing to nurture local talent. Their achievement not only brings international recognition to De Doorns but also inspires other young people to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.
