Today marks the end of an era for respected community activist and former Ward 2 Councillor, Pamela Nelani, as she officially concludes an extraordinary 23-year journey of dedicated service at the Breede Valley Municipality (BVM). For more than two decades, Nelani has been a familiar and trusted figure in the De Doorns community, devoting her time, energy, and unwavering passion to improving the lives of residents and advancing community development.

Her career in the Community Development space kick-started in 1994, when she was voted as a Ward Councillor, becoming one of the pioneering local leaders entrusted with representing the interests and aspirations of her community during South Africa's democratic transition. Nelani was instrumental in driving vital community projects as a Ward Councillor, including the first housing development in the area. Her visible, hands-on leadership and active engagement style earned her deep admiration from residents, fellow officials, and community leaders alike.

Following the conclusion of her term as a Ward Councillor, she joined the Municipality in 2003 as a Community Development Worker (CDW), embarking on a distinguished career defined by unwavering dedication to public service, grassroots development, and community empowerment. Over the past 23 years, she has become a trusted and respected figure in De Doorns, tirelessly advocating for residents' needs and aspirations while ensuring that the voices of ordinary citizens are heard and represented. Renowned for her accessibility, compassion, and hands-on approach, she consistently went beyond the call of duty to assist vulnerable individuals and families, often serving as a vital link between the community and government services.

Among her many achievements as a seasoned Community Development Practitioner, she played a pivotal role in initiating and supporting several community food garden projects that continue to benefit numerous families and schools by providing a sustainable source of nutritious food. Her passion for youth development and education is reflected in the many lives she has helped transform. One notable success story is that of a local student whom she assisted in securing an opportunity to further his studies in South Korea. Today, he is a qualified engineer working in Johannesburg, a testament to her commitment to empowering young people to reach their full potential. She also played a proactive role in the establishment of two Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Sandhills and GG Camp communities, creating access to quality early learning opportunities for hundreds of children while contributing to local job creation.

As she prepares to embark on a well-deserved retirement, Nelani remains committed to serving her community and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Rather than slowing down, she plans to channel her energy and wealth of experience into establishing an organisation dedicated to advocating for the rights and wellbeing of senior citizens. A passionate believer in community upliftment and social justice, Nelani envisions creating programmes that will empower elderly residents, promote active ageing, and provide opportunities for social engagement, skills development, and community participation. Her goal is to ensure that senior citizens remain valued, respected, and actively involved in society.

At the heart of her retirement plans is a determination to ensure that no elderly person feels neglected, isolated, or forgotten. Through various empowerment initiatives and support programmes, she hopes to create a platform that will champion the interests of older persons while enhancing their quality of life and dignity. As she closes this significant chapter of her life, many have paid tribute to her years of selfless service and the positive impact she has had on countless individuals and families across the community.

On behalf of the BVM family, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Bafana Bafana on their magnificent victory over South Korea and their qualification for the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup. This remarkable achievement is a proud moment for South Africa and a testament to the determination, discipline, and fighting spirit that our national team has displayed throughout the tournament.

By overcoming a formidable South Korean side, Bafana Bafana has once again demonstrated that South African football can compete with the very best on the global stage. The team's success has united millions of South Africans across all backgrounds, inspiring hope, patriotism, and national pride. Their journey serves as a powerful reminder that through hard work, resilience, and teamwork, great achievements are possible.

As they advance to the next stage of the competition, we wish the players, coaching staff, and the entire South African delegation strength and success in the matches ahead. The nation stands firmly behind them as they continue to carry our flag with honour and distinction. May this historic campaign inspire our young people to pursue their dreams with courage and dedication, both on and off the field.

We are looking forward to Sunday's encounter with Canada, and our Boys, with no doubt, we will come out victorious!! We need to wear our branded Bafana T-shirts with pride and confidence.
