Some children love dressing up, knocking on doors and joining in the excitement.

Others might find the costumes, noise, decorations and unexpected changes a little too much.

And that’s okay.

Halloween doesn’t have to look a certain way to be fun.

Maybe it’s dressing up at home. Maybe it’s visiting one familiar house. Maybe it’s handing out lollies from the safety of their own front door. Or maybe Halloween just isn’t their thing.

There’s no one right way to join in.

The best way is the way that works for your child or young person.

As children become teenagers and young people, their world changes.

Their interests change. Their friendships change. They become more independent. They start figuring out what they enjoy, what matters to them and what they want their life to look like.

Their support should be able to change with them too.

What worked when they were younger might not be what they need now. Sometimes support needs to look more like getting out into the community, pursuing interests, building confidence, developing independence or simply having someone alongside them who gets them.

At Serenity, we take the time to get to know each child and young person and what makes them tick. We want support to feel comfortable, respectful and genuinely suited to who they are.

Because they are growing and changing.

Their support should have room to grow with them too.

Some kids will chat your ear off within five minutes. Others need to know a person is safe before they'll say much at all. Anna is good with both.

She connects over the stuff young people care about, K-pop, gaming, whatever they're into. She's also happy to sit with the silence until trust starts to build. Before her Masters of Counselling, Anna spent years as a School Support Officer with kids aged 5 to 16, so she reads the room well.
