Council's draft Overland Flood Studies for Alstonville, Wardell and Lennox Head are now on public exhibition, and we'd like your feedback!

🌧️Overland flooding happens when heavy rain causes water to flow over the ground, usually because the drainage system can’t handle the volume. This is different from riverine flooding, which happens when a river or creek overflows its banks.

Once finalised, these studies will provide valuable information to:

🏘️ Support town planning
🏗️ Guide future development
🚨 Assist emergency response during future storms

Come along to one of our community information sessions to find out more:

📍 Wardell War Memorial Hall – Monday 9 November 2026, 5-7pm
📍 Wollongbar Hall – Wednesday 11 November 2026, 5-7pm
📍 Lennox Head Community Hall – Wednesday 18 November 2026, 5-7pm

🔗 View the draft studies and make a submission by Friday 27 November at www.yoursayballina.com.au/overland-flood-study

Ross Lane moving full steam ahead 🚧

With Ross Lane now in its second week of closure, crews have been making great progress on the new bridge and road upgrades.

So far, crews have installed and poured four bridge foundation piles, with the final two pours happening over the coming week. The bridge abutments, which will support each end of the new bridge, have also been built, and work has started on widening the road shoulders to improve safety for all road users.

In the weeks ahead, crews will remove the existing culvert, install creek rock protection and begin installing the precast bridge abutments that will support the new Deadmans Creek bridge.

While construction is underway, don't forget that businesses on Ross Lane and Newrybar Swamp Road remain open. Whether you're heading to the pool, attending an appointment, shopping locally or stopping in for a meal, your support helps keep our local businesses thriving.

What's happening on our bridges? 🏗

Work on the Ballina Bridges Duplication Project is moving along nicely, with sheet piling now complete on the eastern side of Fishery Creek Bridge at River Street. This important milestone will help strengthen and protect the new bridge embankment as construction progresses.

Next week, crews will move to Canal Bridge at Tamarind Drive to continue sheet piling works. Motorists and pedestrians may notice some noise, vibration and short traffic delays while work is underway, with traffic controllers on site to keep everyone moving safely.
