There's something different about talking to someone who genuinely gets what you're going through.

Someone who doesn't need you to explain why you're still missing your person years later.

Someone who understands that you can laugh, enjoy life, make new memories and still carry enormous grief for the person who died.

Someone who can share what helped them through a difficult experience, or simply listen without trying to fix anything.

I've experienced firsthand how valuable those connections can be, and I've seen the difference they can make for others too.

That's why peer connection is such an important part of Grief Connect®.

Our online community brings together people grieving the death of someone important, with professionally guided conversations, live sessions, practical resources and opportunities to connect with others.

You don't need to have everything figured out, and you certainly don't need to be having a good day to belong.

If you've been looking for somewhere to connect with people who understand, I'd love for you to learn more about the Grief Connect® Community. 💜

The funeral ends. Everyone goes home. But your grief continues.

In the beginning, there can be so many people checking in, offering support and asking how you're doing.

But over time, the messages can become less frequent, people return to their own routines and you can find yourself wondering where all that support has gone.

Meanwhile, you're still trying to work out how to live without someone who was such an important part of your life.

I know how lonely that can feel.

It's one of the reasons I believe ongoing connection is so important, because grief doesn't suddenly become easier just because time has passed.

The Grief Connect® Community is a professionally guided online space where you can connect with other grieving people, participate in live conversations and access practical information and support as you navigate life after loss.

Whether your person died recently or many years ago, you're welcome.

There is something incredibly special about the Candlelight Ceremony at Relay for Life. 💜

Last night, I had the privilege of MCing this beautiful ceremony at Bunbury Relay for Life, where we came together to remember and honour the people we love and miss who have died from cancer, while also acknowledging cancer survivors, carers and the many families whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

It was a privilege to welcome Mia, who played Amazing Grace so beautifully on the violin, and to hear Cooper share his own personal journey through his words and music.

I don’t think there would have been a dry eye in the crowd, and I certainly had to hold back my own tears so I could continue speaking.

Cooper, thank you for sharing something so personal and for creating such a meaningful moment where we could all remember, reflect and honour the people who will always be part of our lives.

There is something incredibly special about standing together, connected through our grief, knowing that although our experiences are different, we understand what it means to love someone, to miss them and to continue living without them.

As Relay for Life Bunbury 2026 comes to a close, I’m once again grateful to bring Grief Connect® along to support the teams, families and wider community.

Because long after the candles have gone out and the event has finished, grief continues, and so does the importance of having people around us who understand.

No one should have to navigate grief alone. 💜

💜 HOPE. Such a powerful word, and one that means so much to me.

Here today, at Bunbury Relay for Life, the word HOPE stands proudly in the centre of the oval, reminding us what today is all about.

Raising vital funds for cancer research, remembering and honouring the people we miss, having real conversations about grief, and finding hope as we continue to live our lives while carrying the love and memories of those no longer beside us.

Every year, Relay for Life is something special, bringing people together through love, loss, connection and hope.

💜 If you’re coming down today, please stop by the Grief Connect® stand and say hello. I’d love to have a chat, hear your stories and keep these important conversations about grief going.

Because we can honour the people we’ve lost while still looking forward to life and all that lies ahead. 💜

When you bring together leading journalists and experts from across a diverse range of industries, the opportunities for connection, collaboration and meaningful conversations are endless.

Meet the Media Sydney was such a unique opportunity to meet and connect with journalists from across TV, radio, newspapers and digital media platforms.

Hearing journalists speak openly about the realities of journalism, how it all works behind the scenes and what the media is looking for in a pitch was incredibly valuable.

And beyond the media connections, it was also an opportunity to be surrounded by a room full of experts, each bringing their own professional knowledge, experience and perspectives from across a wide range of industries.

And a reminder that you never really know what someone sitting beside you might be going through. Among the experts I connected with other people navigating the early days and longer stretches of grief. Behind every professional title is a person with their own story, and sometimes that includes unimaginable grief, survival, determination and fierce strength to keep showing up every day in life.

I’ve come away with fantastic new connections and am really looking forward to following up on these conversations and seeing where they lead, particularly as I continue contributing to media conversations as a grief expert and sharing the work of Grief Connect®.

A huge thank you to Nic Hayes and the team at Media Stable for creating such a unique event that brings together journalists and industry experts, opening doors to valuable connections and nation wide conversations.

When there is a death within your workplace, you're not managing one person's grief.
You're supporting an entire team of people who may all respond differently.

Some colleagues may have worked closely with the person for years, while others may have known them only briefly.

Some will want to talk about what happened, some may find those conversations overwhelming, and others may be struggling with their own experiences of death and loss that have been brought to the surface.

There may also be uncertainty about what information can be shared, how to acknowledge the death appropriately and how to support staff while continuing to meet workplace responsibilities.

These situations require care, clear communication and an understanding that people experience grief differently.

I work with organisations through Grief Connect® to help leaders and teams navigate these challenges, providing practical grief education, communication strategies and guidance around supporting colleagues following a death.

Training can be tailored to the needs of your workplace, whether you are responding to a recent death or wanting to build the confidence of your leadership team.

For more information, email me [email protected] and find out how your team can manage through grief with understanding and confidence.

A workplace can have excellent wellbeing policies and still have no idea what to do when an employee dies.

Having an Employee Assistance Program, bereavement leave and workplace wellbeing policies is important, but these don't automatically give managers the confidence to support someone who is grieving.

A leader still needs to know how to have that first conversation, how to respond when someone becomes distressed, how to communicate with the wider team and how to support an employee over the weeks and months that follow.

And when leaders haven't been prepared, even well-intentioned responses can leave grieving employees feeling misunderstood or unsupported.

This is where workplace grief education can make a real difference.

I founded Grief Connect® because I understand both professionally and personally how significant the gaps in grief support can be.

Today, I work with organisations to strengthen their understanding of grief and provide practical training that helps leaders support their people with greater confidence.

You don't need to wait until your workplace experiences a death to start preparing your leaders.

If workplace grief training is something your organisation is considering, email [email protected]

💜 MELBOURNE WIDOWED CATCH-UP IS TOMORROW!

Tomorrow, Monday 26 October, we're bringing together members of our Grief Connect® Young Widowed and Over 55s Widowed Support Groups in Melbourne.

If you're widowed and would like to meet others who understand what life after the death of a partner can be like, we'd love you to join us for some conversation and connection.

Sometimes taking that first step to attend a catch-up can feel daunting, especially when you don't know anyone, but everyone attending has something in common, and that's often where some wonderful connections begin.

Please share this post if you know someone who is widowed in Melbourne. You never know who might be looking for an opportunity to connect with others who understand.

💜 This event is for widowed people only. Full details are available under the Events tab in our Grief Connect® Young Widowed and Over 55s Widowed Support Groups on Facebook.
