All aboard for a tropical adventure! 🌴✨

High above Cairns in Far North Queensland, the picturesque mountain village of Kuranda is surrounded by one of the world’s oldest surviving tropical rainforest ecosystems, and getting there is half the fun!

🚠 Skyrail Rainforest Cableway takes you gliding above the lush green canopy of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, with spectacular views of towering rainforest trees, rugged mountains and cascading waterfalls. It’s a bird’s-eye view of nature at its finest!

🚂 Kuranda Scenic Railway is equally breathtaking! This historic railway, completed in 1891, winds through hand-carved tunnels, across bridges and past the magnificent Barron Falls. An extraordinary feat of engineering surrounded by tropical wilderness.

🌿 A BOTANICAL PARADISE! 🌿

For plant lovers, Kuranda is an absolute delight! Giant fan palms (Licuala ramsayi), towering Australian kauri pines (Agathis robusta), ancient tree ferns and spectacular climbing vines create a living green cathedral. Some of these remarkable rainforest plant lineages have existed for millions of years!

🦋 Butterflies everywhere! 🦋

A visit to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is another highlight. Imagine wandering through a tropical garden surrounded by hundreds of brilliantly coloured butterflies, including the dazzling electric-blue Ulysses butterfly (Papilio ulysses) and the spectacular Cairns birdwing (Ornithoptera euphorion), one of Australia’s largest butterflies!
