Energy security.
Robust supply chains.
Leadership in Super Intelligence (SI) and emerging tech.

Secretary Rubio told foreign ministers these are U.S. priorities, and probably in the national interest of every country at the table.

AUKUS NEWS 🇺🇸🇦🇺🇬🇧

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Males MP and UK Secretary of State for Defence Wes Streeting have announced USS Colorado will be the first U.S. Navy Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine assigned to SRF-West, which will begin at HMAS Stirling naval base in late 2027.

This announcement comes ahead of the United States Submarine Maintenance Period, which begins later this week and will further demonstrate Australia’s growing ability to sustain U.S. and UK nuclear-powered fast-attack submarines. From the speakers in our phones to the technology that keeps us connected, critical minerals are essential to everyday life.

Tom Lograsso, Director of the 's at Ames National Laboratory, explains how Australia's abundant mineral resources and America's manufacturing capabilities complement each other, creating opportunities to turn critical minerals into the technologies of tomorrow.

One year ago, President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese signed the U.S.–Australia Critical Minerals Framework, strengthening our partnership to secure the critical minerals essential to our economies and national security.

The Framework is helping build more resilient supply chains, expand investment, strengthen domestic manufacturing, and create high-quality American jobs. It is also helping to prevent any one nation from having a stranglehold on critical minerals supply chains.

To advance these shared goals, the -Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) has issued more than US$2.2 billion in Letters of Interest supporting critical minerals and supply-chain security projects in Australia.

One year on, we're turning our shared commitment into action and building a stronger, more secure economic future for both nations.

What a thrill to get hands-on with rugby and learn a few tricks from Wallabies superstar player Joseph Suaalii! I had a fantastic time throwing the ball around with Joseph and getting a taste of what it takes to play at the highest level. A huge thanks to rugby.com.au CEO Phil Waugh, and the Wallabies for welcoming me behind the scenes on the sidelines of the Bledisloe Cup!

The energy, teamwork, and dedication on display were incredible - and we had a ton of fun along the way!

Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, and the U.S. and Australia share a fantastic sporting connection. With exciting Rugby World Cups ahead in both our countries, there are plenty of opportunities to build on that connection and strengthen people-to-people ties, both on and off the field.

How great was it to have the NFL touch down, Down Under? The U.S. Department of State and NFL partnership was on full display throughout Melbourne last week with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers driving diplomacy far beyond the field. One of the ways Americans and Australians bond is through our shared love of sports. As Secretary Rubio says: “As American football grows in popularity around the world, the National Football League and the State Department are working together to celebrate American Excellence, expanding our nation’s brand of sports culture to new markets.” 🏈🇺🇸🇦🇺
