🔬 We loved welcoming Year 5 students from Caladenia Primary School yesterday for one of a series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) workshops to help introduce them to high school science and see our campus.

💨 Mr Smith challenged the students to create a simple wind turbine that could lift a small cup, using materials including cardboard, tape, straws and string.

😄 Their enthusiasm was infectious as the Year 5s brainstormed, designed, built and had their creations tested with a hairdryer!

🚀 CVC offers a STEM specialist program for exceptional maths and science students, and delivers engaging mainstream science classes full of fun activities like this.

💙 We hope the Caladenia Year 5s enjoy their workshop series, and come back to us in 2028!

📚 Literary Club meets after school every Thursday, working on English skills with a focus on literary competitions and how to get work published.

📰 Last week’s was a particularly special catch up, as the students checked out IndigoTeen Magazine, a volunteer-run publication created for teenagers by teenagers. The magazine recently ran a mental health issue, which featured artwork and a short story by graduating CVC student Ryan Toor.

💬 Year 7 student Freyal says she enjoys attending because it’s a chance to gain extra knowledge, study different texts, and talk more about her favourite school subject with her friends. It’s a bonus discussing advanced concepts with the older year groups.

🌟 Literary Club is just one of the awesome extracurricular options at CVC, helping students learn more about the subjects they’re passionate about. Find out about our 20-plus after school clubs and groups at our website (link in the comments).

🎓 “Don’t mistake where you are today for where you will eventually be,” Principal Dean Gurr told the graduating class of 2026 at Monday night’s Valedictory Ceremony.

✨Our Year 12s looked amazing in their gowns and sashes, celebrating their high school journey and achievements.

🏅 Every student had their moment on stage, accepting their portfolios from Principal Gurr as their name was read out. We also acknowledged our award winners, were treated to a performance by our top music student Tyson, heard from the 2026 College Captains, and enjoyed a funny and emotional student-made vox pop video.

💙 All the best to our graduating cohort – some starting exams this week. We are very proud of you all.

📸 The full suite of professional photos from the evening will be available soon.

📍As part of their Tourism studies, Year 11 Geography students recently explored Fremantle, seeing the port city in a new light.

🏛️They visited Fremantle Prison, Cicerello’s and the Round House, discovering the importance of tourism to Fremantle’s economy, history and local community, bringing their classroom learning to life.

🚢 “It was a very enjoyable and educational day,” Riley said, having enjoyed the chance to learn outside the classroom.

🎭 Last term, the Year 9 English Academic Extension students spent a night at the theatre.

✈️ They were treated to ‘Come From Away’, a musical based on true events during 9/11. Aeroplanes were redirected to Canada, and the show reflected the kindness of the Canadian people who looked after stranded passengers from across the globe.

👏 All in attendance – including the students, and some staff and parents – had an amazing time and gave the performers a standing ovation.

🤝 We were very grateful for the opportunity to share the amazing work happening at CVC with our valued partners, the Southern Districts Rotary Club last month.

⭐ This event provided the chance to showcase our school programs, facilities and achievements, as well as celebrating the strong partnership we share with Rotary.

🎓 We were also proud to acknowledge Year 10 student Mila, our 2026 RYPEN candidate. RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) helps young people discover their potential and develop essential life skills through a weekend camp.

🗣️ Principal Dean Gurr said Mila “spoke from the heart about what she learned about herself and how her confidence has grown through her involvement in the camp this year”.

🙌 “Thanks again to Rotary for their continued support of Canning Vale College,” Principal Gurr said.
