It's been 48 days since Chilly arrived into care 🦘
Rescued from a fence, he was hanging by one leg and his rescuer Debbie feared dislocation.
Upon arrival, he was assessed and with no dislocation, no breaks or fractions there was a sigh of relief from all.
But the swelling of his foot and leg was astronomical and combined with severe never damage, his leg was "dead".
Once all the bush-ticks were removed, he was placed in an ICU hut and monitored for 24-48hours.
His foot was warm so I knew there was circulation there so I focused on his swelling.
Over time I saw him wiggle his toe, then a week later move his leg. It was a slow progression but he was safe and he had the time to heal.
With help he started to stand for short burst, any movement resulted in him toppling to the ground.
He was carried into his hut each night where he had food, water and heating and each morning I would open his doors before sunrise.
A few days ago he greeted me by standing. I was SO proud!
Now he can stand on his own and even challenges the volunteers that arrive to do his housekeeping. He stands on his tippy toes and growls. He is given a respectful distance as chores are completed. Yesterday he managed 2 hops across his yard.
Knowing he is healing and will one day soon return to his family and stomping ground makes us all so happy ❤️
Chilly loves almonds and freshly picked grass. His hobbies include watching the sunrise, rain from his hut and chatting to the teens through his courtyard fencing 😊
**I am going to place a photo of how Chilly was found in the comments section. Please do not go looking for it if you are easily distressed. It's an upsetting image**
