🌫️ FOGGY CONDITIONS? DRIVE TO CONDITIONS & STAY SAFE! 🚗

Fog can reduce visibility quickly, making it harder to see hazards, other vehicles and changing road conditions.

If you’re driving in fog:

💡 Turn your headlights on - make sure you can see and be seen.
↔️ Leave a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front.
🚗💨 adjust your speed to the conditions.
👀 Stay alert and expect conditions to change quickly.

Remember, the vehicle in front may be closer than it appears in the fog.

Take your time, leave plenty of space and get there safely.

🚒🔥 SPRINGFIELD Fire Brigade IS BEHIND YOU, DAN! 🔥🚒

A big shout-out to one of our newest members, Dan, who has recently moved to the area and transferred into Springfield Fire Brigade after many years with CFA.

Dan is taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb on this Saturday 12 September - and it’s certainly no walk in the park!

🏃‍♂️ 28 floors
🔥 Full structural firefighting gear
😮‍💨 Breathing apparatus
💪 Around 25kg of extra weight

The Stair Climb brings firefighters together to take on a seriously tough challenge while raising much-needed funds and awareness for cancer research, mental health and su***de prevention.

It’s a great cause, a massive physical challenge and something we’re proud to support.

From all of us at Springfield CFA - good luck Dan! 👊

We’ll be cheering you on as you tackle every step, every floor and every leg burning stair! 😂🔥

If you can, get behind Dan and support his fundraising effort. Every dollar makes a difference.

Vale, Patrick Clarke

It is with heavy hearts that Springfield Fire Brigade shares the sad news of the passing of our mate, Pat Clarke.

Ex-Captain Pat was a true gentleman, a respected firefighter and a man with an incredible passion for his community. His knowledge, dedication and friendship have left a lasting mark on all of us.

Our thoughts are with Pat’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. We hope they can take comfort in knowing just how much Pat was respected, admired and loved by his brigade family and the wider community.

Pat’s name is proudly carried on Springfield Tanker 2 — and every time that truck rolls out of the station, we’ll know a little piece of you is with us.

With your name proudly on the truck, Pat, we know you’ll always be with us.

Rest easy, mate. You’ve done your bit.

Vale Pat Clarke. 🚒❤️

🔥 TRAINING | UNDERSTANDING STRUCTURE FIRES 🔥

Our latest training night at Springfield CFA was all about what’s happening inside a structure fire - and, more importantly, how we can recognise it, understand it and safely manage it.

The crew worked through:

🌡️ Fire behaviour - understanding how a fire develops and changes, and recognising the warning signs.

🔥 Heat transfer - conduction, convection and radiation, and how each can influence the spread and behaviour of a fire.

💦 Fire suppression methods - looking at how different techniques can be used to control and extinguish fire effectively.

🚒 Fire ground practices - putting the theory into practice with a live training scenario, focusing on crew safety, positioning, communication and effective fire attack.

The practical component gave the crew the opportunity to see fire behaviour firsthand and reinforce why understanding what the fire is doing is critical to making good decisions on the fire ground.

Training isn’t just about putting the wet stuff on the red stuff - it’s about understanding the fire before we take it on. 👨‍🚒🔥

Recently members of the Springfield Fire Brigade and their families came together at Tambo Farm for our presentation night - a fantastic evening celebrating our brigade, our members and the families who stand beside us every step of the way.

The night recognised an incredible milestone of more than 200 years of combined service across our members, along with the presentation of 5 National Medals acknowledging years of dedication and commitment to protecting our community.

A special highlight of the evening was Captain Jason presenting the official naming of Tanker 2 in honour of our mate Pat- recognising his lifelong contribution, leadership and unwavering commitment to the brigade and community.

Congratulations to all award recipients and thank you to every member, partner, family member and supporter who makes our brigade what it is. 🚒

Last night at our biannual presentation, Springfield Fire Brigade proudly named Tanker 2 in honour of Patrick Clarke - a true pillar of our brigade and community.

Pat has been a member of the CFA longer than Springfield has even had a fire brigade, a remarkable achievement that speaks volumes about his lifelong dedication to protecting the community. Over the years he has held many roles within the brigade and wider group, including serving as Captain for 17 years, helping guide and shape generations of firefighters along the way.

Respected by all, Pat is a wealth of knowledge, an icon of the area, a mentor and someone looked up to by each and every member of the brigade. His commitment, leadership and passion for the community have put a lasting mark on Springfield Fire Brigade.

On the night, Pat was also recognised with:
• National Medal – 3rd Clasp
• CFA Life Membership
• 60 Years CFA Service Award

An incredible achievement for an incredible firefighter.

As Captain Jason said so perfectly, “Pat will always be on the truck.” 🚒👏
