Such a great initiative. Be kind to all ❤️
In Denmark, children are given a simple yet powerful hour each week to talk about how they treat one another. From ages 6 to 16, students gather for klassens tid—a time free from grades and pressure, where listening, respect, and solving small problems come first. It’s a space that teaches every child that their voice matters and their feelings have a place.
This weekly hour doesn’t just shape better students, it shapes kinder human beings. Children learn to notice those who sit alone, to include others, and to speak honestly without fear. And with official school materials that teach compassion toward animals, empathy naturally widens—because caring for a living creature is real-life practice in caring for the world.
Imagine if every child everywhere had one protected hour to slow down, reflect, and practice kindness. An hour like this can change the way children grow, creating more mindful teenagers and warmer, more connected communities. Sometimes, all it takes is one small hour to spark something much bigger...❤️

🌊 Wave by wave, Miller is building his confidence. His OT suggested surfing as a fun way to learn new skills together, and it’s working beautifully.
Nature is one of the best places to grow, explore emotions, and connect with yourself. Some kids are social butterflies, while others take a little longer to feel comfortable in a crowd, and that’s perfectly okay.
Out in nature, away from the noise and pressure, confidence can shine. Miller is a 11 years old brave boy who said YES to this adventure
Thank you for your amazing support. Well done Miller! Give him a big round of applause and a hooray 🥳👏👏👏👏

All About Kids and Animals ✨
Both Malaika and Peta work with beautiful animals to help them live a better life. These two wonderful girls will graduate from school at the end of this year. So, what do they learn from these volunteer experiences?
:
Malaika works alongside a team of volunteers, sharing tasks, following instructions, and working both collaboratively and independently. She has daily goals, and today’s goal was to identify tasks independently.
How did she go? Malaika noticed that the cat window frames had a lot of dust and started cleaning them by herself. This was greatly appreciated by the staff, as children visiting the shelter often touch and hold onto these window frames to look inside. Well done, Malaika! 👏
:
Peta volunteers with the beautiful rescue animals, helping to prepare their feeds, fill water troughs, clean pens, and walk them to fresh grass.
How did she go this week? Peta’s goals are to improve her coordination, memory, and speed. Impressively, she remembered the feed mixture for the animals, and although she’s still working on her speed, she walked up and down the hills with both goats and sheep twice, guiding them perfectly.
Peta has a heart of gold. Even though most of her set goals focus on physical skills, you never have to ask her if she wants to pat an animal. She brushes and pats both Lucky and Fallon every time she takes a break.
When they enter the workforce, they will not only be skilled but also kind and compassionate ❤️.

🐾 Week 2 at AWLQ!
Building employment skills through compassion and love. 💛
Malaika started the supported volunteering program at AWLQ through us and has been showing incredible attention to detail, working hard, following instructions, and even starting friendly chats with her colleagues, just like in any workplace.
We’re lucky to build employment skills alongside calming animals. When we need a break or emotions take over, we can find a quiet cat room with a furry friend asking for some love and pats. It’s a beautiful way to reset, calm down, and return to ourselves.
Thanks to AWLQ induction training, Malaika remembered all the key cat signals and showed such respect and care while interacting with them.
It was a wonderful day of learning, connection, and growth, and what a beautiful way to build real world employment skills.

This morning was such a beautiful reminder of what adventure can do 🌿
Our caring support workers, and Tadiwa took the boys on a bush walk, and it was more than just a walk there were chats, laughter, little discoveries along the trail, and plenty of moments to just relax and play.
Friendships are so important for our happiness and mental health, and out in nature they just seem to grow so naturally.
If you agree, hit like, leave a comment, or send us a message to join us on our adventure weekend programs.
