Caroline Chisholm Society Here are the Caroline Chisholm Society (CCS) we believe in the empowerment of women and families; it’s one of our values.

CCS is an accredited and registered community service, specialising in the First 1000 Days and the early years working with women and their families to promote and enhance early childhood and parenting outcomes. We do this by providing support to mothers, babies, toddlers and the family that surrounds them. Founded in the 1960s by Dr Philomene Joshua and a group of volunteers in response to the real needs of women and children in communities across Melbourne and Goulburn Valley. Inspired by the life and work of Caroline Chisholm, who dedicated her life in providing practical assistance with accommodation, work and protection – as well as politically agitating on behalf of women and their children. The Society works with women to keep families together and prevent the involvement of child protection services in the lives of women and their children. In achieving this, the organization is clearly focused on supporting women with their pregnancy and early parenting to create safe and nurturing environments for infants and young children. We work with the whole family to support secure attachment, optimize child outcomes through parenting interventions, prevent and alleviate the impacts of poverty, homelessness, family violence and issues with mental health have on parent and child well being. Our Vision

Safe, healthy and secure homes, families and communities where mothers, babies and children are thriving. Our Mission

We exist to provide stability, security and dignity for mothers and their families. Our Values

We will develop services that are underpinned by the principles of :

- Respect for Life
- Compassion and caring
- Social Justice
- Empowerment
- Recognition of diversity
- Accountable Best Practice

The 2026 Children's Week theme, "Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practise their religion," reminds us that every child deserves to grow up feeling seen, respected and valued for their unique identity.

At Caroline Chisholm Society, we are privileged to work alongside families from many different cultures, faiths, languages and backgrounds. We know that when children are connected to their culture, community and sense of belonging, they are better supported to thrive.

This week, we celebrate the rich diversity of the children and families in our community and reaffirm our commitment to creating safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces where every child can be themselves.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with pride in their identity, confidence in their voice, and hope for their future.

Happy Children's Week 2026!

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting our Annual General Meeting (AGM), bringing together our staff, Board, supporters and community to reflect on another year at Caroline Chisholm Society.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our achievements, recognise the dedication of those who make our work possible and look ahead to the year to come.

A very special thank you to Ashley, a former client of Caroline Chisholm Society, who generously shared her heartfelt and inspiring story with us. Her courage in sharing her experiences was a powerful reminder of the difference that compassion, connection and the right support can make in the lives of families.

Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support our mission of creating brighter futures for women, children and families.

The difference coming together makes

For years, Stella experienced family violence, and even after leaving the relationship, she continued to face threats, intimidation and the challenges of keeping her young son, Brody, safe.

Through the support of Caroline Chisholm Society and her dedicated practitioner, Stella found someone who listened, believed her and stood beside her as she worked towards a safer future.

Stella's story reminds us of the importance of coming together to support families, particularly as we approach the end of the year.

Last week, the Caroline Chisholm Society team attended the RMIT Social Work Careers Fair, where we had the opportunity to share more about our work supporting women, children and families.

It was wonderful to connect with passionate social work students and graduates, discuss student placement opportunities, explore future career pathways, and showcase the impact that community services can have on the lives of families facing crisis and disadvantage.

A big thank you to for hosting such a fantastic event and to everyone who stopped by to chat with us.
