A reminder about the drop-in session at Mullumbimby tomorrow for the Draft Byron Shire Overland Flood Study.

This study is about overland flooding, sometimes called flash flooding, caused by short periods of intense rainfall overwhelming drainage systems, resulting in water flowing across land, roads and properties.

📍Mullumbimby Council Chambers - 4 November from 2pm to 4pm.

💻For all the information and to have your say visit Council's website:

This study focuses on flooding caused when drainage systems in our towns and villages can't cope with heavy rain during storms.

⚡Wild Weather and Problem Waste Don’t Mix ⚡

Preparing your home for storm season isn’t just about tying things down — it’s also the time to clear out hazardous problem waste hiding in the shed.

Items like old paint, gas bottles, fluoro globes, batteries and oils can leak, ignite or explode if damaged in wild weather.

NSW Emergency Services advise that storm‑damaged chemicals and fuels are a major cause of post‑disaster household contamination, so get ahead of the storm and dispose of problem waste early at your local Community Recycling Centre.

⛈Thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon. Here's some tips from your local Northern Rivers NSW SES.

To view flood cameras and more visit Council's Emergency Dashboard: https://emergency.byron.nsw.gov.au/

⛈️ Thunders storms might be coming our way later today.

The safest place during a storm is under secure shelter, aware from trees, powerlines, creeks and low-lying areas.

Here are some things you can do to stay safe and be prepared:
🔸Keep an eye on the weather radar and avoid travel during heavy rain.
🔸Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines if safe to do so.
🔸Tie down loose items in your yard.
🔸Stay indoors away from windows and keep children and pets indoors as well.
🔸Report fallen power lines to Essential Energy 13 20 80.

🛑 Steer clear of floodwaters. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.
⚠️ Remember, flash flooding is dangerous and unpredictable. Stay vigilant.
📲 Download Hazards Near Me or visit the NSW SES website to stay up to date with warnings and information, especially as the weather moves through and may affect other areas.

📞 If you require assistance in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500. In life-threatening situations, call Triple Zero (000).

Issued at 13:15 AEST on Tuesday 3 November 2026.

🚧Mullumbimby Road will be closed to outbound traffic for three days.

Mullumbimby Road will close to outbound traffic, except for buses and emergency vehicles, for three days from 16 to 18 November (weather permitting). Work hours will be 7am to 6pm.

The road will remain open to inbound traffic although there will be delays of up to 15 to 20 minutes at times.

The reason for the changes is so Council can do a final seal of the road.

Nightworks are not recommended for spray seal due to the lower air and road temperatures. Road temperatures must be above 24 degrees.

Line marking will also be done over two nights in late November and another two nights in early December. The road will remain open during this work.

🛻Drivers will have to use alternative routes to leave Mullumbimby such as Myocum Road and Coolamon Scenic Drive.

Heavy vehicles should use Myocum Road.

🙏We thank everyone for their patience.
