Mitchell Shire Establishes a Agribusiness Committee

Did you know Mitchell Shire has 377 farmers who contribute about 8.33% of total rate revenue.

The old slogan says “thank a farmer for your next meal”. But it should also say, thank a farmer for a lot of what you see around the shire as well.

In recognition of this massive contribution, an agribusiness committee will be established to give farmers a seat at the council table. Bringing this group into line with the many other committees who provide feedback to council on relevant matters.

If you wish to volunteer for this committee please keep an eye out for expressions of interest soon.

Appreciation post to all the volunteers, sponsors, vendors, exhibitors and entertainers that put in a huge effort to bring the Seymour Show together.

The Seymour Show is the last Agricultural Show in the area. And is one of oldest community groups in Victoria. Its ongoing presence is an amazing effort for our town.

Seymour is lucky to have so many people willing to donate their time and resources to make events like this happen. I know this is the envy of every town across Mitchell Shire.

But this success requires new people to put up their hand every year. So just as I have done before, I encourage anyone who is able to contribute, in even the smallest of ways, to lean in to one of the many events or groups across Seymour.

Volunteerism is what makes Seymour’s successes.

WorkSafe Victoria can we please organise an urgent review of your decision to impose new restrictions at the resource recovery centre.

This was built relatively recently as an industry leading, purpose built facility for the safe and efficient handling of waste.

Your changes have made the site more dangerous. With multiple accidents and near misses already reported since the changes.

Not to mention, the disincentive for people to actually take their waste there- rather than illegally dump it in our environment.

1. Why would tipping not be allowed? On a flat concrete surface?
2. Why would people not be allowed in their Ute or trailer, especially given the new barriers- sideways lifting are the most likely movement leading to back injuries
3. Why would these barriers be installed, forcing people to lift larger objects over 2m high- above their heads?

Does anyone have a higher up contact at work safe Victoria?

Ps. Apologies for using the term “workcover” early in the video

Traffic engineering Part 4

The reduction in speed limits on rural roads across the north ward has frustrated so many residents.

Dropping the speed limit from 100 to 80 is a 20% reduction in productivity. And is costing busy families extra hours, fuel and wear & tear.

And the speed enforcement cameras which are now continually operating on these roads is just revenue raising.

Governments at all levels need to remember that speed limits are not target speeds… that are maximum speeds, when the conditions are right.

And don’t think you’re safe in the south, you’re next!

Traffic engineering Part 3- The installation of pedestrian walkways too close to the Station Street roundabout. Causing traffic delays and congestion

Part 2- Traffic engineering gone wrong

20/08/2026

I’ve put together a four part series on Seymour traffic engineering gone wrong.

Councillors spend a lot of time trying to squash bad ideas. Ideas that often start with someone sitting behind a desk, in a state government office, with zero real world experience.

Enjoy….

The four bin system…

At a recent council meeting I put forward the case that councillors had a responsibility to the public to fight for better rubbish collection.

If a council can’t get “rates, rubbish and local responsibilities” right, then there’s a serious problem.

We might be diverting some green waste from landfill, but I would describe that as a long way from “success”.
