🇯🇵 Japan Tour Update – Tokyo Adventures!

Over the past three days, our students have been soaking up the hustle and bustle of Tokyo! From exploring the historic Asakusa Temple and navigating the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing to discovering Akihabara (the heart of anime, gaming and Japanese pop culture), their days have been jam-packed with activities!

Other highlights have included the immersive digital art experience at teamLab, a visit to the Rinkai Disaster Prevention Centre, where students learnt about earthquake preparedness, and a traditional sumo show experience! 🤼

There has also been plenty of karaoke (and then some more karaoke! 🎤)

Students have experienced firsthand just how crowded Tokyo’s trains can get! 🚆 Those bright blue caps have certainly come in handy! 🧢

✈️ Students have just boarded their first flight to Singapore and are due to land back in Sydney at 5:45pm on Friday evening.

A big thank you to our students for embracing this experience with such maturity and enthusiasm and to their wonderful Japanese teachers, Ms Sun and Mr Choi, for their dedication and care throughout the tour! ❤️

Japan Tour Update 🇯🇵

Over the past few days, students have experienced a wonderful mix of tradition and modern Japan, exploring the sights of Kyoto before enjoying a very different kind of adventure at Universal Studios Japan! 🎢

The rain certainly didn’t stop our daredevils, who continued braving the rides well and truly into the evening! 🌧️🎡

Students are now in Tokyo, where they will spend the final few days of their tour before boarding their flight home late Thursday evening. ✈️ 😢

Japan Update - Miyajima Island 🇯🇵✨

☀️ Yesterday’s adventure took students to beautiful Miyajima Island!

With clear blue skies, some very friendly local visitors 🦌, a hands-on manju cooking lesson, a visit to the famous Itsukushima Shrine ⛩️ and breathtaking views from above, it was another memorable day in Japan.

A perfect mix of culture, scenery and fun! 🇯🇵✨

Next stop: Kyoto 🍵 🌸 🎋 👘

A Special Farewell, Hiroshima and More Memories from Japan 🇯🇵

Our students have now finished their homestay visit and it was very clear how special the experience had become - both the students and their host families were reluctant to say goodbye 😢

They have all had a wonderful time at school, with the final day being particularly immersive. Students joined classes including Science, Mathematics, PE, Geography and even “morality” classes, all taught in Japanese. Some also took part in a disaster prevention workshop.

Another interesting part of the experience was o-souji, or school cleaning. In Japanese schools, this is seen as an important part of character education rather than simply a chore. It helps teach responsibility, teamwork and respect for shared spaces and our students were able to experience this alongside their Japanese classmates.

Yesterday, the group travelled by bullet train to Hiroshima, where they visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Atomic Bomb Dome and listened to a survivor’s testimony. Understandably, it was a very moving and confronting experience. Students were able to share their impressions openly and also support one another as they reflected on what they had seen and heard.

They finished the day on a lighter note with a delicious Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki dinner. It was fantastic to hear the students using so much Japanese with the restaurant staff and each other!

Today, students are off to Miyajima Island 🦌⛩️

🇯🇵 Japan Study Tour - Onojo Update

Our students have had a great start to their homestay experience in Onojo! On their first day, students took part in icebreaker activities, enjoyed some sightseeing and met official Onojo City representatives, including the Mayor and the famous “Ono Joe” mascot.

Over the weekend, students made the most of the rainy weather with their host families. Some of the highlights included club activities, arcades, the Daimonji Festival, shrines, karaoke, ramen and, of course, plenty of shopping!

Today, students experienced their first full day in Japanese schools. They took part in activities including sport, art, music, calligraphy and cooking. The Japanese students welcomed them very warmly, and it sounds like many new friendships have already been formed.
After a very full day, students have now returned home with their host families for a well-earned rest before another busy school day tomorrow.

We are very grateful to our host families and our friends in Onojo for making our students feel so welcome. 🇯🇵

Our students are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime - a two-week tour of Japan! They are through security and ready to board their 6pm flight, heading straight to Fukuoka, with a brief layover at Changi Airport.

A big thank you to our school community, families, and, of course, our wonderful Japanese teachers, Ms Sun and Mr Choi, for their incredible support in making this opportunity possible. How lucky are our students to have such passionate and dedicated teachers guiding them on this adventure! 💙
