Tonight’s training got off to an early start when the department responded to a report of a tree down on a power line. Thankfully, the situation was quickly brought under control, and there was no risk of fire spreading into the surrounding woods.

After returning to the station, members continued with the evening’s scheduled training, which focused on pump operations and relay pumping using a jet siphon. Crews practiced establishing a water relay from a source while using a jet siphon to maximize water transfer between portable tanks, along with managing multiple hose lines. The hands-on training gave everyone an opportunity to build confidence and sharpen skills that are essential during rural firefighting operations.

Every emergency response and every training night helps ensure our members are prepared to serve the community safely and effectively.

Tonight, our members took part in boat rescue training, sharpening the skills needed to respond safely and effectively to emergencies on the water.

Training included locating GPS coordinates, deploying throw bags, removing a person from the water, and practicing man-overboard procedures.

Regular hands-on training helps ensure our firefighters are ready when every second counts, whether the call comes on land or on the water.

Douglas Harbour Fire Department had a busy day of community events and celebrations today.

Members of the department attended Minto Elementary & Middle School’s Touch a Truck event, where members had the opportunity to meet with students, families, and community members.

Later in the evening, the department held a small BBQ to celebrate the successful completion of Level I Firefighter training by Travis Nason, Glen Murray, Tanner McCoy, and Craig Connors.

The department also proudly recognizes Tim Oickle on his promotion to the rank of Captain.

Congratulations to all members on their achievements, and thank you to everyone who came out and supported today’s events.

Members took the opportunity at tonight’s training to hone their pump operations skills while cleaning the parking lot at a local business.

The department meets every Thursday at 7pm, anyone interested in volunteering with the us can feel free to reach out or stop in at the hall on Thursdays!

Alert Ready, the national emergency alert system, will be tested in New Brunswick on May 6, at 10:55 a.m.
